Only had a couple of quick games on Arcade mode so far and it seems pretty good. You certainly have to be precise!

I am definately fancying the wheel though

Adam
08-01-11, 05:19 PM
Very good game imo. I play on it quite a bit.
I want the wheel too but everywhere seems to be out of stock.

The cars on it are pretty realistic in terms of performance etc.

Worth buying. Beware though that you'll probably have to download a gig or 2 update for it the first time you start the game. 3-4 updates have already been released for it through PSN.

Dan
08-01-11, 05:21 PM
For me personally the game is ok, does exactly what it says on the tin.

As regards a wheel, i have only ever used forcefeedback wheels since they first got released, the one for the game is very good imo. I had an older model one which i donated to the brother-in-law as he struggled in some parts with the controller, and he hasnt looked back since.

I'm on level 20 but havent spent that much time on it tbh

if you are going to buy this game i would recommend getting it from amazon as the give you 2 codes upon purchace which you redeem in the playstaion store and get 2 free cars in limited edition colours called the stealth mode, i got a Mclaren F1 ( the rroad car from years ago ) and a mazda le mans race car with over 800 bhp, ideal for the sunday cup races lol

Adam

Lotus carltons pop up in the used car dealership every so often, not a car that interests me lol

Im level 15-16 i think.

Everyone said yes before the game came out.

Im thinking no now though, unless they are uber rare in the used car dealership.
Ive seen most new Vauxhalls, and a few old ones (tigras, carltons etc)

No cavs/astras/novas though.

Got it just after release - I'm impressed with the way it looks - just GT4 with more polish and a bit more HD; some of the non premium cars look a bit shte scaled up but meh.
Like the online bit and all the car swapping you can do with mates - just waiting to see if they do car downloads for future motors.
The physics are a lot better than GT4 and I like the way cars all have their own handling traits.
Don't like the crash damage, it looks a bit gash and isn't a patch on Forza. I also don't like the costs to repair an expensive car if you just ding it a little bit!! The stealth cars are great because if you bin them, they only cost 500Cr to repair!
No more NO2 upgrade which is a bit of a pita, but the biggest thing I've noticed in amongst all of the car upgrades...where the f*ck is the option to uprate the brakes?

moffat
08-01-11, 06:18 PM
yeah i noticed no brake upgrades lol

Level 20 here, 15 Bspec. Not a fan of bspec though, does my nut in. 3 drivers, all around level 13. Can't get on it enough. Gameplay makes up for the cack standard car graphics, but the photo mode on the premiums is awesome! Some nice cars in it too.
Saleen s7 nice and rare, R5 maxi turbo rally car...sideways fun! :thumb:

ooh never saw this thread lol..
Im currently doing endurance on A-spec (level 27) and 4 drivers on B-spec (levels 17,15,1 and 0 lol)
I dont have a wheel, yet.. but played it on a GT25 (logitech)
In a nut-shell on a wheel its easy to be quicker time-wise; so hot-lapping and so on.. (can drive smoother, with aids turned off) But the advantage isnt so great when on-line so much; there are some advantages with joypad over wheel and visa versa.
Spent 3.9m on an f1 car the other night.
But the common road cars are where the most fun is at i reckon.

burgo
09-01-11, 03:59 PM
yes i noticed your on it a fair bit peester lol

to be honest im really not that impressed with it at all, kinda pissed off i went out and bought a ps3 especially for it. think im only at level 13 a spec and level 7 b spec

Level 26 A-spec and 8? B-spec. I have 5.5mil sat waiting for a FGT to come up used in the right colour lol
Brake upgrades are only worth doing if they modelled fade, or are you complaining that you having to press the button too hard lol

Scottive found it much easier since setting the controls the same as an xbox lmao. i.e

R2 = accelerate
L2 = brake
Circle = change up
Square = change down
X = hand brake lol

the rest i've left basically the same i think

i have the gt5 wheel, bought it just before xmas after about a month of pad use, was weird to begin with but made it much more enjoyable and precise, just watch out for calf muscle fatige! lol

i'm a-spec 30 or 31 and b-spec 39. (didn't work from 25th nov - 5th jan due to snow so well and truely kicked the @rse of it!) done every race except the last b-spec 24hr and all the a-spec endurance, not keen on 4-24hr races! theres talk making then save-able part of the way through the race so i'll hold out for now!

recommend b-spec though! frustrating to begin with but once your driver is good enough he can make you serious coin! 1m cr for the dream car championship! and you can kick back and watch tv. plus you also win better cars in b-spec, mazda fuira (sp) zonda r and minolta lm car iirc!

online is good, better if you or a mate hosts so you can sort the rules and kick the c*nts!

ps. ID is Big_Chap

I have GT5, just started playing it (Need to finish Assassins Creed 2 first). I have also played the game with a Logitech G25 which is an awesome wheel...but pricey!

Although not as pricey as the GT5 Thrustmaster wheel.

matt_vaughan
13-01-11, 10:28 PM
Got a G25 wheel and Gran Turismo and tbh it's plain awesome. You really have to drive the wheel hard to get the most out of it but my god it's good when you do.

L14MNP
13-01-11, 10:31 PM
That lack of damage and dodgy sound are just two of many things that means this doesn't even compare to Forza 3.

I have played GT5 many times too. Although I don't own it or a PS3 - and never will tbh! Sony fans love it becuase let's be honest, what else is on offer?

You get the truth from those that own both machines.

Dar
14-01-11, 06:12 PM
I have both machines and have also played Forza 3 ALOT! Not played GT5 enough to compare the two properly yet. To be honest it's all much of a muchness these days.

Although driving the TopGear test track in a 111R with no traction control and crappy tyres is a hoot!

Right so Ive got the Logitech DF GT wheel set up in my "games" room, OK it's a rough slung together job for now, I'm going to pinch one of my bucket seats from the nova and make something better! lol

BUT all said and done, once you get the setting set to how you like it, its ace! works very well on GT5 and is OK on NFSS, works'ish on Grid, not so good with Ridge Race 7, but thats due to the game etc...

So here's a pic, and now I'm off to use it more...

Hello all,

I have the elusive driving force gt wheel and let me tell you its worth every penny and the countless hours you will spend looking for one, to my knowledge there is one in an argos in leeds apart from that they are all sold out everywhere, unless you go direct to logitech but then it will cost £120!

You will then need to sort out some sort of table/stand to attach it too as the force feedback is too severe to just rest it on your knees. It has paddle shifters on the back of the wheel so you don't have to use the gear lever, very user friendly.

But i am finally there and the journey was worth it, look out davey skills i'm gunning for you!

Also loads of cars but no novas, online is a must as there's an extra second hand car dealership with rare cars as well as seasonal event with loads of money/xp to be had as well as drift and time trials. (Davey skills tends to be top)

All in all an amazing game although very similar to gt4 except more cars tracks and better graphics of course, buy the wheel if you can find one. The reason ive not been on png since it came out!

I have a top gear reasonably priced car challenge going, Toyota Prius 128bhp, 1260kg, my time is 1.36.3 any takers?
