I want to put a bigger Engine in my GSi but do not want to do all the
welding and stuff, can i put a 1.8/2.0 8 valve in with out any of the
welding etc.

What exactly is involved???

Cheers

i think the 1.8 and 2.0 are both big block engines that would require some welding.

The best bet for you to do no welding is getting a 1.6 16V engine. I've heard these are brilliant and produce 109bhp as standard if taken form an early Corsa GSI. You can tune them to over 150bhp quite easily i've heard.

The Plus side also is that they weigh a lot less then the 2.0 and 1.8.

Welding is required to strengthen the engine bay from flexing / braking apart, if your looking at more power it is awlays a good idea to do this. It doesn't matter if it's a 1.6 16v or 2.0 16v, strengthening the engine bay should really be done.

back in the day NO welding was a neccessity, to an extent its not now

BUT

with the age of most novas, sadly anyone will admit there not as strong as they were 10 years ago ;)

on a lighter note

we fitted a 20tr 8v engine to a car FULL of rust, with no strengthening, and its still zipping around birmingham ;)

and no it aint my ar! so i dont care about metal worm!

a couple of well placed runs are all that is needed for a 2.0 nova.... but obviously more welding will make the car last longer... mine did 40k miles with no welding

thought about fitting twin 40's?
would have a similar performance gain along with a new cam and car would handle much beter that if 2L is fitted :)

yup, get a cam, send your head off to bill blydenstein. whack the 40s

if you look at it against power for price, its obviously better just to drop a hooj engine in, but wheres the fun in that?

both options have pros and cons

id go small block

alright point taken

but what he is going to see from a standard valver...... why not tune a small block.....?

 i'm glad i couldn't hear what he was saying

reasons for not tuning small block are relibility and fuel economy
