Do you have "enough" fuel though? fuel pump could be goosed. Timing ok? Ht leads fitted correctly?

Earth lead fitted from N/S chassis leg to gearbox?
Timing OK?
Dizzy OK? Module in the dizzy often packs up.
Do you have compression?
Start with all the basics again and work your way through.
Is there trace of fuel getting into the cylinders, any on the plugs?

all earths are fine, checked and double checked.
timing has been set and reset and checked and all is well
tried new dizzy, and cap, and coil.
plenty of compression.
and have taken plugs out and turned it, and petrol is getting into the cylinders
and ive check the ht's

im clueless as to why it wont start

get a tow rope. when my old one still had its carb engine, i did some work & it simply wouldn't start. we towed it up to about 30 and bump started it. maybe the battery wasn't properly charged, but it ran fine from there on.

ill have to try that mate, hope it starts soon, starting to lose my enthusiasm, which means hammer + windscreen which would be quite unfortunate given all the work ive put into it

nope, timing is fine, ive checked and checked and check it, choke cable is adjusted according to haynes.

i am clueless now, ive exhaust every option and still, its firing nicely, but will not start

compression test?

the distributor on the 1200st has an advance retard diaphragm that can fail, so when you are trying to start, it doesn't actually advance it. to test it, you need to partially dismantle the dizzy, ie. cap off, arm off, cover off, and then pop the vacuum pipe off the carb & suck like hell on it, and see if the mechanism moves or not. that could be the problem. advancing the timing will sort of fix it, but not properly....
