So now I have a new laptop I don't want it ruining by some grotty teenage hacker/Nigerian who wants my bank account details and sort code or to kill my machine for a giggle.
What sort of anti virus do you all use?
I currently am running AVG free but am guessing that I probably need some sort of internet protection and a beefier firewall like zone alarm?
OS is Windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks :)

My mum was reccomended one from microsoft which is free to download (shock horror) by a computer guy who came to fix her old laptop, he said its ****hot and really works i think its called 'microsoft security essentials' as thats what the icon on my desktop says (mum is my tech support, but cant ask as she is in bed now so dont ask) google that and see what you find but apparently its really good:thumb:

avast av running all the time, malwarebytes for scans, comodo as a firewall, and I did use spybot search and destory for spyware but malwarebytes seems to pick up all the same stuff and more. Never had an intrusion block since modern routers with built in firewalls though tbh.

I have Avira free edition, and run super antispyware alongside it, never had any problems.

I'm now using Microsoft Security Essentials on all my PC's, and its very good. I used to run AVG free, but recently its become bloated and slow and let my main PC get infected, so I don't recommend trying that now.

^ agreed, AVG is toss these days.

Malwarebytes, MS security gubbins and firewall on the router should see you fine for most stuff. Zone alarm is more hassle than its worth tbh

Im currently using BitDefender antivirus and Comodo firewall.
Needs a bit of a play with it to get them working as needed, but all is well.

AVG free used be good about 4 versions ago when it was simple, basic and quick.
Now it tries to do everything and pretty much used to hog half of my system resources. And so i removed it.
