DVD subtitles

Ok, so I have Initial D on DVD, its audio track is Cantonese but it does have English subtitles. Except for some reason the subtitles don't work!

Any other DVD with subtitles turned on works fine. I've tried in WinMP, VLC, MPC, GOM... none of them will display the subtitles (VLC just crashes lol)

Tried the disc in my laptop (Win7 on WinMP) and it works fine, shows the subtitles. So its something on this computer but what! Google has failed me on this one :(
