I've just read the 1.2 tuning guide in articles but thought it best not to comment on it seein as no-one has in like a year! Anyways I've read all the things you can do and was just randomly wondering if you could put a GTE head on a 1.2 block? I have a cavalier big block 1.6 dizzy and coil and all that so would it work? I also read something about this increasing compression massively but could i get round this by fitting a thicker copper headgasket? I also have twin 40's to go on it and shall be gettin a GTE exhaust system very soon, either that or a LET on carbs!haha :thumb:

you could if you wanted to make it slower the 1.6 head would lower compresion and reduce power

A LET on carbs? It would be first!

a let on carbs would be garbage

You mean forced induction on carbs on a let?

seriously, there is hardly any point in tuning a 1.2, the % gains are amazing, but you are starting from a low hp in the first place. a std 1.3 or 1.4 will produce way more power and your insurance would be way lower than a tuned 1.2

Until you turbo it...

Slightly pointless but different nonetheless...

Ah fair enough well it was worth a shot you don't know unless you ask an all that!lol aren't renny 5 turdbo's on carb?? However much i enjoyed that last comment about doing that and turboing it i fear that because it's me it would most probs result in a catastrophic explosion but if not, tell me more!!haha lol

its dead easy to turbo an engine.... whether it'll be any good is a different matter...... it will need a full rebuild first cos the bores will be slack as anything, and the crank bearings not much better, then once you've worked out the manifolds & oil feeds, and air pipes, there is the small matter of managing to fuel it & cool it. so budget about £1500 for the job.

You can gain a few HP, from using an early 1.2 cylinder head from a carb engine, because the ports are bigger than the ones on the later ones.

Although according to the book both engines make the same HP but im sure theres a gain.

Here is the truth.

DON'T bother with the 1.2, as soon as you ring your insurance, and mention cams, carbs and big valved heads they will spank you for a lot of coins.

Just wait 12 months, then fit a standard e16se:thumb:

a let on carbs why not just carb a xe?? would save wasting money on a let for no reason lol

sorry to sound daft lol but why do the bores and bearings need reconditioning? It that because of wear over time? If so the engines only done 20k since new so they shouldn't be too bad should they?? Cheers meeesta!lol :thumb:

right... it is also 23 years old..... and has had just as much cold starting on old oil as a 200k engine. the bores will have been worn from all that choke... trust me, if you turboed it, it would blow up pretty quickly. the tolerances needed to keep the boost in need to be a lot tighter.

How come turbo as standard cars don't need rebuilding lots then? Are the pistons tighter to the bores when they leave the factory??

Are the pistons tighter to the bores when they leave the factory?? its more to do with different design & material usage.

Think about it, If your adding more pressure into the cylinders its more likly to seep/leak in places that are weeker/worn. Not hard to understand.

F**k the 1.2 just deal with it or change it!

Maybe it is for me because i'm retarded!lol
