mk1 nova, bought not built...

some people will probably already know this nova as Rich's (Chance's) nova. i bought it off him last year and pretty much drove it the way i bought it for a while. took it to york dragstrip and pulled a 14.3 on my 4th run which is the same as what time rich ran. then i realised either the head gasket is on its way out or the head is starting to go porous. so its now in the garage waiting for me to save up the money to get it done. just had a quaife LSD fitted to it and the next step is head and cam work.

Yeah those plans were foiled by cashflow problems so had to sell the turbo motor and all the other bits unfortunately:cry:

bummer lol. had a look at some pics of it and it looks good. what about gas flowed head and cams, they worth a try?

i dont think im going to go down the sport vinyl route as a lot of people do that, i was going to but i think now im going for a blue and white theme. blue hoses, blue centre caps and going to try and match it with blue pinstripe on the bumpers, should look sweet after iv got the paint freshened up, maybe thinking comps going fully blue too but i dont know about that yet. letters on the spark plug cover blue too.

Heres the strut brace what im cleaning up, grinding the welds down then filling in any holes with the mig welder, then re-grinding them back flat to build the metal back up. not finished the whole brace yes, just one side done.

backbox is the same as when i bought it mate and yeah been looking into them, no point in having the diff if its not giving equal power to the wheels is there, and cheers, its about my 4th attempt at the badge haha lol

cheers :) i think when rich who had it before me took it to boggys on the rolling road it was around the 173bhp mark. and the power delivery is quite vicious, either power on or power off, but once you get used to it its not too bad tbh, imo anyway. my mate had a go and he found it quite hard to control the power but he still enjoyed it :)

carbs off to get to alternator, got a mate to clean them and cleaned the manifold as it was greasy

ran a tap through the threads to clear them of any crap

as im doing the Porous head mod this weekend i decided to prep the aluminium tube ready to go in this weekend

so....

cut it with a hacksaw to 87mm as it says in all of the stuff that i have found on the web, the ends were really crappy after i cut them

so i cleaned them up using a flap wheel on a grinder, they came out like this

The burr was also inside the tube, and i didnt have a small enough file, so i just used a small drillbit

i also took the backbox off the exhaust today and drained the water from it, and gave it a polish, when i put it on it seems to become much quieter lol ??? could this be because of the water

yeah, just condensation, the backbox had filled up over winter as its been sat in the garage, i drained it and gave it a clean and it seems a lot quieter now lol

right, car went to the garage on monday, head is off, its been skimmed and pressure tested and its passed, waiting for it to get back to the garage and gonna crack on with the porous mod, will get some pictures of that later.

porous mod failed, couldnt get the grubscrew out, but as the head passed the pressure test hopefully thats not a problem any more

best start posting some updates before i get myself lost, so heres whats happened since i last posted:

took it out, drove it about, took it to york raceway, realised it was running slower than usual, realised the head was still porous, burst a rad hose, put it away again.

then i bought a steering wheel

in the process of buying parts and bits to get it how i want it. bought a new head and a set of cams from spud, going to arp the bottom end and have it resprayed, also need to buy some clocks for it too lol. bought some bucket seats yesterday so they need to be fitted when i can be arsed, then its gonna get moved to a friends unit to pull the engine out and start some proper work on it

yes but i have loads of time to do mine so im allowed.

was going to spend £££'s on some bucket seats but then these came up for £30 so i couldnt turn them down, going to make some mounts for them and get them bolted in

decided to crack on and have a go at sorting the bodywork and paintwork out, last time i did this it was a total fail as i just blasted paint over the old stuff, then just left it. after a few little tutorials from a mate i had a go myself.


started by finding all the litle scratches, dents and cracks and started to fill them and filler primer

filled a dent in the roof, used filler primer to fill in the small pitting in the primer then sanded it flat

i think when the arches had been done before i bought it they have had a good hammering, so decided to have a got at sorting them

Bout time you cracked back on with this, mines been done for ages, Brodies is back out soon, Joff's is back out too, crack on we got some really nice novas just in Hull now, so we need them all together for a meet :p
