well i just got a 406 hdi 110, clutch is very high and judders pulling away in first gear
been told its the DMF, around £800 to have changed, 12 hours labour lol
i can get a solid flywheel conversion for it for £255, + fitting, but would like to fit it my self lol
pug said it should be in a musium, 152k and still on its orginal lol

it shud be lol i wood just put a standard one in. the astra has had one fitted after the clutch went at 7000 -8000 miles because DMF and it fells like it can put the power down alot better and quicker now and rev more freely
Sounds more like pressure plate to me Baxter.
Ive been in 2 cars (Golf mk4, and Transporter) with dual mass gone. And you dont usually feel it to higher in the rev range. And it will judder the car to pieces, youll know when they have gone.
But i may stand corrected, there may be some earlier symptoms Baxter is experiencing.
Also, ive had 2 Transits, mk4 and then newer mk5 with this, and turned out to be pressure plate. Its usually when the pressure plate is nearing its stage of replacement. If your thinking of replacing the flywheel, you may aswell just try a new clutch first for the time it takes for such an experience fetler like yourself lol :D

DMF = £410
DMF clutch kit = £210
soild flywheel with clutch kit = £255
ummm
the cars funny as ****, why would a 110bhp 4 door saloon, need to slightly fold its mirrors in over 75mph lol
it think its a sub sonic fighter jet lol
May aswell do the whole lot anyway then.

Ive had a dual mass flywheel on a focus 1.8 tddi actually break apart lol i would definatly go with a solid flywheel conversion, i know its different but ive done alot of transits and they drive the same with a soild flywheel or a dual mass.

All a dual mass flywheel is is two flywheels with springs in which gets rid of the springs in the presure palte.
This may sound like a bodge but take it out weld right round the outside making it one flywheel have seen this done hundreds of times and never goes wrong.
General Baxter
06-01-11, 09:08 PM
its not worth welding
it only costs around £50 more to have the proper conversion flywheel
what i dont get it WHY do i need a DMF?
my cav had 100bhp and 175Ftlb
the pug has 110bhp and 188ftlb torque!
what makes it so special lol

fukc up mostly. my superb 07 plate is on its 3rd in 3 months. and they dont do a conversion for it:(
basically, not everyone who drives a diesel has size 13 1/2 shoes........ and dmf makes it easy for the lighter footed amongst us, ladies, hairdressers, poofs etc...

iv heard that, replacing it with a solid fly will make it judder worse then its doing now lol
16v Nova Kev
06-01-11, 09:21 PM
i dont think a solid would shudder tbh.
General Baxter
06-01-11, 09:24 PM
it would just act like a normal cars lol
the old FH's at work with a manual clutch have solid flywheels they have 400ish bhp lol, they do fine lol

all the car companies must have had a meeting and thought g what doesnt break on cars............oh flywheels lets invent one thast held together with springs.
p.s its quite an easy box to do im sure you would manage it.
I'm running the Volvo on a solid fly now instead of the DMF crap. No issues.

we had a couple of a3 2.0 tdi's with the flywheel convertion done and both destroyed the box and heard there was sum cars that were changing to solids and sheering the drive bolts out the crank.
there a pain in the rear sounds like a pressure plate probleam, if the clutch has been slipping might have boiled the grease out of them or giving it no damping affect at end of allowed rotation. there will be a measurment of how much play is allowed but vertualy no play if u wobble it upword ie towords the gear box and crank.

06-01-11, 09:34 PM
sure the vw boys that put the 1.8t into older golfs do the convertion. slighty off topic lol

i did one having never done one before. gear likage was cables hyd clutch iirc. hardest bit was clearance of the gearbox mount/chassis. you undo a nut and the bolt sticks out the top of the box. but does unscrew with grips or stilsons(sp)
why do people think you can rev a diesel like a petrol & use the clutch like a switch????????? truckers don't..........and we get 300000miles out of a clutch easy.

facny giving me a hand, ill pay you the £5 in diesel it will cost to come up here lol
i dont even rev it past 3000rpm lol
Only because it would take you the majority of the day to do so!
One theory behind the DMF's is they reduce vibration though the gearbox, and thus converting it kills the gearboxes. But I imagine that is rubbish.
DMF's can also cause a knocking noise, Had a galaxy that knocked when you switched it off, (like keyed off and it knocked as the engine stopped rotating), Took us a while to figure it out.
