View Full Version : Tried to hi-jack the Nova

Dave.
05-01-11, 03:17 AM
About 10:30 tonight i dropped my mate off at his house in the far end of Widnes, after i backed out of his road a tall, grey haired man in his late 40's/early 50's nocked at my window, which is very strange round here, so i rolled the window down an inch or so, he said "Can i have a lift mate" obviously i replied with "No mate im going home" He then said "Well im from the Police and im commendearing your car" (for those who dont know, thats when a Police Officer takes your vehicle off you to help them catch a criminal in an emergency situation) "I said no mate no chance"

Then without warning he then opened the door and tried to drag me out of the car, after a short struggle i managed to grab the gearstick and stuck the car into reverse and believe me i floored it, dragging him and the drivers side of the Nova along a brick wall at about 30mph before being stopped very suddenly by a lampost, he then punched me in the face repeatedley saying "Get the **** out of the car, get the **** out" I managed to get it into first and put my foot to the floor, taking him with me for afew yards before he lost grip and fell off the door and was squashed by the rear wheel.

To say im shaken is an understatement, Police came and ended up catching him hobbling down the road with a broken/injured leg, i thought he was heavily drunk at the time, but it turns out he is an escaped mental patient from St.Helens whos been missing since yesterday, and apparently had been asking other motorists earlier that evening on a busy main road for a lift to the train station, im so lucky to be alive, he mustve wanted a car to get him out of the area, he couldve stabbed me, nocked me out, even killed me or anything, mental patients will do anything to be free

The Nova is in a truley sorry state, it needs a new door, 1/4 panel, back panel and bumper, i nearly broke down in tears when i saw the damage :(

Im just so thankfull to be alive... first car jacking experience, and i 'aint letting no fruit loop take my baby :d ... now im off to bed with a black eye, bleeding nose swollen jaw and a banging headache after waiting 4 hours in A&E before discharging myself :( ... ill try and get pictures of the car tomorrow, its at the police depot as the door wouldnt shut it was that badly damaged, plus they want it for forensics too

Some may call me mad for fighting with him, but ive had the Nova for 5 years, and im not about to let some fruit loop drag me out of it from the driving seat for me to never see it again, plus ive put every single penny ive ever got since i was 12 years old into that car and i love it, and thanks to my face taking most of the injuries... ive still got it :thumb:

Edit: Here she is :(

Shocking story mate, glad you've only minor injuries.
Taking on a bread and butter nutter, is a brave thing to do, although you didn't know it at the time, lol.
I'd be looking to sue the place he escaped from, you should at least be in for a claim from the CICB.

As per text.

****ing crazy that.

Mad what you do when the panic sets In!

1/4 panels are readily available though, so it's not too bad!

Could have been a lot worse!

Jack
05-01-11, 07:41 AM
Jeebus. There ain't half some nutters around. Shame about the damage to the car though.

thats why i sacraficed my face :thumb:
^ that made me LOL lol

Stuart
05-01-11, 08:08 AM
Thats bad, but I'd have just let the mofo have the car and let the filth catch him when he stacked it... Thats what insurance and sueing the looney bin is for ;)

Jack
05-01-11, 08:49 AM
Insurance would have just written the car off though? Plus a claim/accident on Dave's record would pretty much destroy his ability to insure anything other than a dead badger

Still could sue the institution though if you can prove they let him out whilst he was still a danger, or if he "escaped"

Hoochie
05-01-11, 08:59 AM
Bliddy Nora, that is something you wouldn't wish on anyone( well except my ex hubby), glad to hear you are ok though and i'm sure with a little bit tlc you and your baby will be fixed in no time.....:)

Bloody hell matey, sorry to hear this story you would usually hear about top end cars getting hi jacked, but thats a pro theif.

If the same thing happened to me i would fight back if i was in the nova, but not the astra, as they are common and easy to replace lol.

Hope your on the mend soon mate and get some pics of the nova up when you can and feel better.

05-01-11, 09:13 AM
That's shocking !!!!!

You done well to fight him off, I wouldn't let anyone take something of mine

Hope the damage is not that bad to you and the nova and you get it sorted soon

Glad your ok Dave, I'm sure you'll get the car sorted

Dave.
05-01-11, 09:36 AM

05-01-11, 09:47 AM
Good work on fighting him off, it'd have ended up in a worse state if you let him have it.

I'm not from Liverpool, thank god! But i often visit family there. I never lock my car at home, even when parked on the drive. I've even left the key in the ignition, turned on for a week! But the doors are always locked, even when driving in Liverpool, or even when i go to Bristol most weekends.

It just goes to prove this stuff happens. I've had my car broken into, and my alpine stolen, my van broken into while outside someones house, in bradford on Avon, ( a very posh, and expensive place, by anybody's standards) and my phone stolen. And the same van was then damaged again, by someone trying to break into it.

MattBrown
05-01-11, 09:49 AM
Did you actually hit the lamp post at 30?

Could be worth getting another shell, and cutting the boot floor etc out?

Or atleast one as a reference for pannel figments etc?

db_1.2
05-01-11, 09:51 AM
I know it may sound childish, but i always have a penknife in my door card. Mainly incase I break down. But you never know for what other reason it might come in handy. But at the same time, that bloke could of been armed. And you risked your life for a car, that's insured anyway.

I repped you too dave, just for being hardcore and defending your nova! Hope you sort it out. Was one tidy nova.

I canny see

EDIT - can now, doesn't look bad at all mate, I've seen worse down the body shop i use. And don't let people put you off about all this floorpan business. It can be repaired and not as much as you think. I've had 2 cars on a jig now.

It's a shame your so far away, I would of suggested you the place I've used, they're excellent.

Edd
05-01-11, 10:52 AM
Damage looks repairable to me

Has it creased the boot floor at all ?

Dave.
05-01-11, 10:59 AM
Not checked Edd, if it has itll pull out easy, its really light, its good news anyways :thumb:

05-01-11, 11:03 AM
Could have been a lot worse. New door, new taillight cluster and bumper and a wee tidy of the rear quarter and she'll be good as new.. Bumper may even be repairable by a good plastic welder

well done for fighting him off mate!! id do the same though!! **** letting a fruit cake take your pride and joy!!! but the car will fix back to its former glory mate!!!

Jack
05-01-11, 12:20 PM
Just seen the pics on FB. Doesn't look all that bad tbh, should be easily repairable with a bit of pulling and painting. Insurance would deffo write it off though, looks like the boot floor may be a tad kinked too

Stuart
05-01-11, 12:29 PM
I'd imagine if you just cracked the side repeaters you'd write a nova off in the insurers eyes lol

dj_wudgey
05-01-11, 12:38 PM
i know off a sr that needed a lock set and the insurance wrote it off some bloke bought it at a insurance repars sales place for cheap sold it on ebay for £1700

hope its easy to sort out though matey!!

Joking aside though youre bloody lucky man and its just lucky he didnt pull a knife on you or anything!
And as for having a knife of your own in the car thats just plain stupid as there is more chance of them taking it off you and stabbing you with it!

05-01-11, 01:23 PM

Not if you stab them in the head first :) Mind you, fuzz could take a knife off you if they decided to stop & search...

A wheel brace could come in handy for clobbering weirdos mind. lol

Huge respect for doing what you did. Way too many people (although is safer) would just give in and let them win. Im sure driving into the lampost was worth it after breaking his leg! Good on you, shame you didnt have the chance to do him over more.

The car looks fixable, hope it is anyway as you have spent way too many years with it and was perfect. Dont give up on it and at least you are ok and you will still be talking about this in years to come and laughing about it and being proud you saved your nova :)

i know a woman who ran down a mental patient who was tying to commit suicide....by jumping in front of her mk3 escort.....she was livid mostly because he'd snapped her radio aerial off by impaling himself with it, she gave him a rollocking & then pulled the aerial out of his abdomen while screaming 'and you're not keeping that either.'

ps. only a mental patient would try to commandeer a nova...

without going throught every post i dont know if anyone has already said this but you will be entitled to criminal claims compensation. it will help pay for the car and you may be suprised at how much you would get. also it comes from the government and not the actual offender so theres no problems with £5 pound a week for the rest of his life because he's poor etc etc. so many people dont realise they can claim for things like assault and get a pay out. im not some insurance guy either, i claimed after i was bottled in the face and scarred for life.

Lucky escape mate, I usually lock my doors when in ****ty areas and have a power bar down the side of the seat which doubles as a brain basher (just in case some nuts come loose, it has actually happened to me before I thought it was the CV joint)

You best believe it, that power bar is harder than my erection when I go past a secondary school!

I can imagine a guy, in a Nova, getting jacked, then suddenly busting out his power bar like pop eye n sh*t! Opening it up and eating it just in time to woop some ass and rescue a girl named olive

Funny you should mention a situation like this as I thought something VERY similar was about to happen to me two days ago.

The guy in question was homeless & about mid 40's. He came over straight away once I parked up in a small open air carpark; V similar build ~ 6ft, thin but big. Started talking about what was different on it & stuck his head right inside...

TBH in situations like that I find it's best to stand as close as possible & talk to them politely about everything they mention. Being confident is a must even if you think you might be moments from getting cut, you have to believe that if they do start you'll beat them no matter what. The eyes will always reveal any bumps in attitude and as it happned there was one moment in there too, so I suppose I was lucky...

Hats off to you for fighting man - now go & train kung fu so next time you'll just step out & end him in a few moments.

man thats madness, good job on defending your nova i would have probably done the same. i always kept a small breaker bar down the side of my seat but i got pulled and they made me put it in the boot.
i always lock my doors when im in dodgy areas.
my closest call was when i was in newmarket in my corsa sport and some drunk guy came up to my car demanding i give him a lift home, i just got out the car and locked it, he insisted i should give him a lift home and if i didn't he would roll my car over.... he started lifting my arch up and i just said don't touch my car and got in front of him and he just walked off. i think its better to just get out the car and lock it so they cant do anything but you have definitely got to act confidently

Holy moley Dave, thats crazy, that door is mullered.
At least your going to repair it. The situation could of got a whole lot worse, but (although not ideal) you came away with minimal injuries, your pride and joy still, and you sent a fruitloop back to where he belongs. Top man :thumb: , lets just hope it doesnt happen again!!

You post on here wanting sympathy etc for what happened to you (I wonder if I'm the only one awaiting this being in the media? lol) and then admit to stealing someone elses property.

Not my dads, but my dads mates, and by "late night shopping" i mean the yard had just shut, but the owner was still there, so he let me in to get them before they went missing or got sold, at about 10 o'clock at night lol

I shouldve kinda' worded it better tbh :p
