I'm aware that harness eyebolts screw straight into the Nova rear seatbelt mounts...but these are not in line with the centre of the front seats...would this misalignment affect the operation and effectiveness of the harness? Or is it better to weld a proper eyebolt spreader plate in line?

You have to fit a proper eye bolt spreader plate if you want to meet msa regs. I did that with mine although now they are mounted to the cage :)
These are how my 3 pointers are fitted

Captive nut with spreader plate is the best way :) unless you have a cage? Then you could get a harness bar welded in. Not really suited to 3 point harnesses.

screw an eyebolt into the sill mounting point, then weld spreader plates in the exhaust tunnel and underneath the rear seats for the other eyebolts to screw into.
Mine are just in the original rear seat points and are fine..
Orignaly rear seat belt mounting points are your friend.
