painting mk1 spoiler

Hi am fitting a mk1 spoiler but its standard grey at the minute and am wanting it body colour and was woundering how to paint it because its like a sponge not hard plastic.
I thought plastic primer, grey primer, then the colour
Any help welcome

gte mk1 rear spoiler is hard plastic, you find it easier to paint a gte one
