So, i have a set of Porsche 928 slot wheels.

My plan was to get them diamond cut, but this costs. I am considering using some elbow grease and polishing them up.
Basically i know a few have done this (Benn and his turbo rims spring to mind!) what is required?
Obviously various grades of paper, pastes etc.
What i want to know is exact grades and the process stage by stage so i can give it a go.
1 wheel has primer on it and another had paint and i guess primer underneath. Best way to remove this?
:)
Paint strip all the paint off till bare.
I then start at 180grit do till smooth.
Then 240grit till smooth,
then 400 till smooth (you'll start seeing the shine kinda come up)
then 800 to smooth,
then a 1000 till smooth.
Then you can start buffing them up. You'll want a polishing kit (ebay do them)
You'll want a corse/ruff mop, and med grade head and a soft final polishing head. With them each has a coloured soap (polishing soap) to go with them.
You'll need speed and power so you'll either way a bench grind or grinder to do the buffing.

Sweet! Got a grinder so can use that for the final buffing. Hmmm, off to ebay.
Cheers for the help.
This any good?

Sorry, more questions...
Some of the rim edges have curbing :(
Best way to dress this up?
And the slots have a recess/groove around them? Might clean and paint in there??
I polished the lip on my bbs splits not so long ago. It was a very time consuming job due to the shape of the wheel. Stripping the powder coat was a right pain as well. Then I had to bolt them all back together. Never again!

These are one piece and pretty flat. Will be a ball ache i'm sure, but easier compared to others.

Isnt a grinder abit fast?
13000 rpm polishing something is surely just gonna burn the metal like fook?
if you go gentle with it matt its not to bad,
what i did, was get the mop kit that benn is possibly on about and stick it in a hand drill, works wonders.

I also use 230v drill

Just the kinda thing you want yes,
Matt, no you need a good high speed to get the mop to polish the metal back up, remember how hard metal is. My bench grinder is fast and it can really struggle in places.
You can use a drill, but there is no where near enough speed. All proper metal polishers will use grinders.

File them off and sand back, hand file then some 80, then 180 and on...
