Right guys need some advice .....

got my new nova yday and i knew the crossmember was abit iffy but just unsure what 100% to do with it, the car is going to be a weekend toy possible daily here and there and all being well will eventually be a LET.

Now the crossmember is rough along the top but seems fine everywhere else . . do i get some nice thick steel and plate over the top or replace it? also the headlamp panel ears are rough so i was thinking of putting a headlamp/slampanel in rather than replacing the whole front panel??

Also the sills ae scabby but dnt seem rotten whats the best advice? Sand down all rust scabs and apply some rusteater and then some underseal etc?

just replace the panel, or you will just be chasing it round and round

I agree with Baxter. Or if your fitting a let you could go for one of those custom lower front panels made from a nice piece of tube or box?

go "what rust" pretend you never saw. and then walk on by! i hate replacing panels. always involves something getting hurt

Id do the sills while your at it nobby as if you dont u'll regret it in a couple of years when you have to do them.

Having replaced full sills it's not the easiest of jobs but it will give you the better looking repair. If I were you I would clean what you've got up and go from there. If the originals are ok then just tidy them up or patch repair them.

Good advice, obviously not applicable for MOT failure dailies... right? lol

id wire wheel the sills back to bare metal first to see what your dealing with

If the metal is full of indentations after wire wheeling the rust then its only gonna come back after 6months...............

Imo even wire wheeling that back you're gonna end up with a pretty thin, uneven surface to work with, depends what kinda finish you're after when done but that's not gonna be the most durable/easiest thing to work with, it may look "surface rust'y" but it does look pretty far gone.
