I work at a shop and for the last 5 days there has been no water in the whole shop.
Bottled water has been provided for drinking but no Toilets can be flushed etc and un-able to wash hands.

Is it illegal for them to do this?
read a little but cant find what im looking for. (our closest public toilets is about a 5 minute walk away)

EDIT: theres a women at work with celiac aswell.

A lad on another forum had this same problem and the conclusion was he is within his rights to refuse to come into work.

I'm just quoting what I read though so not sure, but I should think so as toilets are a necessity.

I believe its illegal, a few places locally have had the same issue as the employees have understandably kicked off about it.

Its been the same where I work and there are only 3 of us, we take water into work and I try my best not to soil myself between 8-5 lol

It's just annoying as we have 30+ people who work there, there are atleast 6-8 people on at the same time most days.

I was told i was within my rites to refuse to come in, but last thing i want to do is end up with the sack

Does it cause you personally a major problem ?

or is just everyone talking about it thats got your back up ?

You can't get the sack BUT being that getting a job currently isn't easy I'd put up with it and not be one of the people moaning as thet will be noted by the employee and maybe come back and bite you in the **** when you don't do something you should of etc..

It is a legal requirement that a work premises MUST have a minimum cold running water for washing facilities & toilet facilities.

Depends if you class cold water as suitable/sufficient washing facilities, thats one for a 9 month long court case though lol

Nope, the regulations state hot/warm and cold for washing purposes

Doesn't specify a temperature mind lol

Take a piss round the back and insist on a longer lunch break so you can use the sh1tter in a Wetherspoons as they're usually nice and clean!

if its not affecting you any more then a 5 minute walk to go to the toilet then i think theres nothing to complain about. you may be entitled not to go to work but i think you need to take the rough with the smooth.

it dont cause me any bother as i can walk to were i live which is like 2 mins away now. But when other staff are dealing with peoples veg etc then its passing germs. We also have a bakery were meat and bread are cooked, so cross contaminations via meat on hands aint good

We also had this problem all last week, except for Friday when the water thawed out enough. We are provided with Swarfega which can be used without water but its not as effective, and we had to fill the sh1thouse up with barrels of water lol
