the astra Gsi just got has a Vxr turbo on it and there's no play at all on the shaft side to side but the shaft has dropped and goes in and out does this mean turbo's gooSed or is there something meant to hold shaft up? just away to take it off the now?

help Ouch appreciated :thumb:

there should be no play in and out, compressor to exhaust side.

Side to side there should be minimal play, basically nothing at all.

If you mean there is end float then yes it is goosed - it's likely the thrust bearing has failed probably from running to much boost. This is a regular occurrence on the vxr and gsi turbo when running high boost.

Isn't there also oil pressure differences, that's why they always smoke from new and you can now buy a restrictor to restify it?

That happened to my z20let charger after 3k, all new feeds and return and pump as well

IMO the turbo unit on both gsi turbo's and vxr's are very weak

Everybody I know who's had either has had problems

Follow the link in my sig and give the office a call for a quote. We do a nice upgraded 360 thrust bearing with a larger thrust face which helps with durability.
