acceleration pedal

hi guys, i have a problem, for some reason my acceleration pedal seems to stick when i put my foot down, the cable stays were it is but the pedal sticks, making my car accelerate when i let go of the pedal. dunno what it is, i have cleaned both sides of the cable but that hasnt worked, can anyone help!?!?

Is the cable moving freely in its outer sheeth? get on your knees and push the pedal by hand and see if you can see what sticks, see if the pedal is getting caught in the carpet or something or if the spring that returns the pedal is strong enough and located properly so it pushes it back.
