they are probably swapping the engine to suit a different rally class..

like mr burton has done with his crazy 306 special over the years....

so, the legendary v64v engine in 2.5l clubman spec is not very reliable??? good selling point there cle.. no wonder you can't sleep at night....

considering the engine was conceived as a sneaky replacement for the honda based 800 series engine in case honda pulled the plug..... & as usual, it suffered from rovers lack of development, it has done pretty well to survive 25 years.......

Take the legendary Rover V8, remove 2 cylinders in the bandsaw, cap off the end et voila, one legendary V6 with unsurprising issues lol

Jag engine seems to be becoming a popular choice, think the efi is a big part of it!

sturge. it is well documented that the original prototypes (2 of them) had a v6 based on the rover v8, but the v64v engine was totally unique & designed from scratch for the job, and also to give rover a v6 engine incase the honda deal went wrong.....

I would take the designed from scratch bit with a pinch of salt! It did become a new engine in it's own right but was still fairly heavily based on the v8.

The money and time just weren't there to have the full new engine ready for the works gpB cars

(or at least so I've been led to believe! Have done a fair bit of work with 6r4's and a couple of blokes that built them. That's not to say they actually know as much as they made out lol )

A friend of mine has one of these and recently built a seccond one from a bare shell upwards with a Jag engine. The v64v engine is a good engine, reliability not the greatest not in standard form anyway, there are still a few companys upgrading and modifieing parts (6r4.com have a hybrid engine they have been developing) and with a 6 month waiting list for a rebuilt one and 26k lighter for goodmans to do it. its not suprising that people opt for the jag engine. But a 6R4 isn't a 6R4 without that screem and no other engine would produce that :-(.

Although i can openly say that it was the best rally car i have even been in and think it always will me!

funny how the engine was ok with larger bore, and 2 turbos, and stuck in the back of an xj220

Another TWR piece of work to iirc,

correct.. they bought the v64v engine for pennies then had some fun with it, first in group C racing then in the 220... it was a bit of a pity how that car ended up, cos the prototype had a 48valve v12 in the back driving a 4wd system, but by the time it made its belated debut, the v6 turbo was in there....still awesome, but as mclaren proved, a v12 sounds incredible.
