Hi all just a quick question really, i just want to know if you could put a fast road/rally cam in a nova 1.2 engine? If so what size engine cam would i need? and would i need anything else to go with it? I have also got a 1.3 webber carb on it at the moment.
Cheers all.
maybe try a quick search...

To my mind - why?
The cost of the cam kit vs a 1300 or 1400, taking the power increase in mind, it's a no-brainer.
Unless you are bound by some competition rules that mean you can't go over 1200cc.
If it's a road car, you'll probably find that the insurance hike for going to 1300cc is far less than declaring a modded 1200.

No point, bigger engine all the way, plus ya wont see much difference on a little engine

Have you fitted the downpipe and exhaust manifold from the 1.3 yet?

yeh honestly mate get a 1.3 and mix match the two to make a 1.4. heard it works well
for a cheap mod, just chuck the 1.3 camshaft in (assuming you have the tool to take the cam out without needing to take the head off). Velos did that a few years back and got 5bhp extra out of a 1.2, not bad for the minimal cash involved.

I used a kent NVO63 cam with duplex springs and new followers in my 1.2, made a lot of difference and with a 4 branch and a nicely tuned weber 32/34 it was a totally different engine, revvy as you like and pulled like a train ;) Worth it in my opinion if you can get hold of the parts of will have use of the parts later down the line like i knew i would do.

stu, you've mentioned this before.. any gen on if they actually tried to optimise the 1.2 engine & cam first before the swap???, cos when i did my 1.2+1.3=1.4 engine, i tried both cams & on factory timing, there wasn't a noticeable difference

When i was developing my 1.2 engine i fitted the 1.3 cam and it was a sensible compromise on drivability and power between the kent NVO62 that i also had and a standard 1.2 cam, worth it if you can get hold of one and dont want to use a Kent Cam.

why not use a 1.6 cam from the gte i did this to my 1.2 and ok it ran lumpy at idle but made a nice bit of difference pulled alot better that was on standerd timing to
only worls on spi, cos of the pump lobe needed for the carb version..
seriously, get hold of the rest of the 1.3 & enjoy 44% more hp.

stuff the cam, just skim the head to oblivion lol
sorry to hijack, but if a ran a bigger cam, 1400 inlet, 1800 throttle body and 4branch and full magnex system on my 1.2spi would i notice much differance,
i need the 1.2 for insurance reasons

1. you would possibly get 5-10hp
2. you would notice that you've blown a lot of hundreds for a car that is still slow
and fitting & declaring that lot would cost more than fitting a 1.3 or 1.4 std engine.

+1 = amen to that!
Moffat - if you do all of those mods to a 1.2 and declare it - it WILL cost more than a 1.3 or 1.4. Some companies load mods stupidly, some only load them a bit - but will push the premiums up more than a standard larger engine.
If you're going to mod, and take the hit on the insurance, do a proper job.
