As you boys are the most sensible....in comparison to some other baby XE related sites......I was just wondering if anyone had dimensions etc for a DIY style powerbox inlet. I really cant see how hard it would be to make a box to which a couple of vacuum pipes are welded and to which a throttle body mounts to.

Or if anyone has one lying around they can measure up :thumb:

Your lucky day, I have a powerbox sat next to me.

Size is determined by the lower inlet and the throttle body, My box is custom made so its basically just a square box.

30cm long, 9cm tall, and 8.5cm deep. Can get pics etc if needed.

But yes, powerboxes are pish easy to make, If you can do it out of alloy, even better (Wont rust from inside then).

I could bring mine to yours Matt but it's attached to my car, might help though for the fixtures and fittings for breathers though and the angle for the throttlebody (not you Lee lol)

The throttle body angle is something mine don't have, Not sure how its going to be with the intake pipe yet. The vaccums, one just needs a nut, inside or out (inside looks best obviously), and then you just need to weld in 2 vaccums, bare min vaccums imo.

Also worth saying about the bolts securing it, Its best to have tubes inside to stop the box crushing and it also helps fitting.

AW06, can i be really cheeky and ask you to do a few dimensions on a piccy when you get a minute or two?? I'm going to get hold of a spare throttle body etc to mock up, but a piccie with some dimensions written on to give me a good idea before I start would be awesome if you could.

Might look at making some up, with some heafty discount for the VERY helpful guys on here.

If you can make them, Do it, Flame on Corsasport has stopped making them, Only guy making them now is a guy on ebay, Hes asking like £160 for one though.

I'll do pics tomorrow, I suggest you get a inlet gasket and a tb gasket too maybe, Can be worked out from that basically.

Cheers Alex. I would be looking to beat the said eBay prices, but with a more proffesional "finish". Im not knocking the lad on eBay, but loads of people have quite nice looking engine bays, then have a relatively ugly "box" stuck to the top of the engine.
In comparison, something like Southie's Mantzel looks very nice.

Otherwise I've heard they do a very good job (eBay ones aswell) so well worth looking into.

Im looking into manufacturing performance parts etc when I leave Uni, so this would be another good bit of experience for me.

Southie I might have to come have a look at yours sometime to take a look at how they're made. Never seen a Mantzel one in the flesh personally, but pics look very professional. Nothing specialised needed to fit yours Southie? All original vac pipes etc used?

Mine was fit on the engine when I bought it, I can meet you on Sunday if you want a look at it though ;)

You need 2 T pieces for the vaccums, and its best to go for all new vaccum hosing at the same time anyway. Servo vaccum needs to be cut and lenghed with a bit of pipe. Oil Breather needs putting into a catch tank/filter. Also need 5 long bolts for fixing it, aswell as 3 bolts for the tb, and one stud and nut.

Think thats it.
