Well ive had a xe nova, xe on carbs a V6 and a LET for 4 miles lol :( , now im getting my new nova and fancy doing a smallblock as i really fancy doing a fastroad 8v, anyone else had these kind of thoughts or am i just ghey?lol

Yep
You cant drive fast anywhere anymore. My 1.3 Sport is more fun to drive than most 200bhp+ modern day hatches etc.

novas are all about small revy engines.
but thats just my opinion :)

Nobby, do more than 4 miles in a Let and you'll never go small block again... Ever

Deanosri
16-12-10, 09:02 PM
I built a 1400 sri, she's rolling roaded at 114bhp! 102ft/lbs too. My mate Maka had an 18e in his sr and mine kept up with that :)

I haven't got bored of fast cars yet, they are addictive, last had a small block lump about 10 years ago and have never been tempted to go back.

i would be the same mate more than likely but a LET's out of the question money wise, and dont really want ANOTHER xe or V6 lol

Thing with lets and xe's is,they handle abysmal, but that smile they give you when your sat on the bumper of an expensive car in an 80's sh1tbox simply cannot be matched.
BUT they drive SOOO much better with a smallblock round corners, theyre far more nimble like how a small car should be imo

General Baxter
16-12-10, 09:19 PM

audi 1.8T engine ;)

AlanH

^^serious? 1.8 20vs are shoite. not many other engines worth putting in. for example newer f*rd engines are all gash with maybe the exception of the focus/mondeo st and rs engines, even these dont have much if anything on vauxhalls offerings so dont see the point.

what spec is your 1400 ???

Kent NVO61K cam kit, Sportex 4branch and full system (mild steel), port n polish, new big ends and rings, balanced crank, standard flywheels been lightened and balanced, roosemotorsport hose kit. Had all gaskets and seals etc replaced, stands me at about £2000 though! But it surprises ALOT of people:d

AlanH
16-12-10, 09:28 PM
im gagging to get my LET finished. whole car will only stand me about 3k so dont think its that bad £ per BHP, should be around 300bhp and handle reasonably well for a bigblock. i did however have a LOT of fun with it when it had a 14sr engine and pierburg2e3 carb and my 1.4sri corsa's were both a hoot on twisty backroads

Rickardo
16-12-10, 09:29 PM
Andy is spot on.

The fun you can have with a Let Nova is unreal.

You can terrorize almost anything in a straight line. The look on there face is priceless.

I reckon, if money is spent on the right suspension, etc, they can also go round corners without bursting into flames.

Never owned a Xe Nova, been in a few, tbh i was seriously impressed.

16-12-10, 09:31 PM
it all depends on how you drive and the roads you drive on. A talented driver in a properly sorted Nova SR would scare the **** out of you on the back roads

mark69
16-12-10, 09:34 PM
my mates got a 1400 single point corsa, its super slow but on the twistys he scares the sh** out of everyone that get in it, he just stays flat out everywere! haha

Ask (blue_peg) Rich about the BMW 330csi and then the 911 Carrera Turbo both on the way back from Billing one year and the Porsche convertible on the way to the national weekend aswell, the look on the face of the soft-top porsche driver was fooking class, he was not impressed at all LMFAO, properly good memories (all well within the national limit btw:p)

I'm bored of modified cars tbh, the money is all down the drain IMO. The scene has thankfully shaken off the fibreglass era, but most boy-racers are either ditching their back seats, spraying their wheels the loudest colour they can find or just generally doing what they can to get noticed.

I'll always appreciate nice cars but I think from now on I'll be an observer (watching other people spend).

It is nice to spend all day strolling up and down the M5 chasing Imprezas though.

this y i am only building a 1.6 8v big block are just gay if you ask me year good in a striate line and if you have the skils on a track you can make big block handle good. but y not just stick with what you were giving a old light engine that do sent make the car **** it self when it come to a corner.

dj_wudgey
17-12-10, 12:57 PM
or you could get a alloy block and have a big block that weigs as much as a small block but in sr's gte's gsi's ect leave them how they should be lol

L33 LEG
17-12-10, 01:13 PM
Never really been into driving fast cars to the limit. Would much prefer a car that looks the part and has a quick engine as standard. My next car is still going to stand out a hell of a lot and be considered a sports car but that doesnt mean il be driving it fast.

dj_wudgey
17-12-10, 01:18 PM
i like both i want my sr to looks and sound good in and give a little bit off right foot in lol and then i want a base model nova or a corsa with a xe let to thrash the balls off lol

1.8 16v small block on tb for me instead of my turbo all day long

L14MNP
17-12-10, 01:22 PM
Cars were beginning to lose my interest to an extent. Then I got a RWD. Then I welded the diff. Then I fitted a larger turbo charged engine. The interest returned, although not fully and also in a different way.

ATM I am rolling around in an 1100cc FWD Itialian POS and quite content though. Still fun on the twisties and off the mark when required.

I'd say I'm nowhere near as much into cars as I used to be and consequently don't spend as much buying/modifying them and that's a good thing.

I still like a bit of a laugh though. :)

Edd
17-12-10, 01:25 PM
having spent thousands on building a XE and then realizing that it was only good in a straight line i would not have another big block

smallblock FTMFW !!!!! :d

there's lots to chose from 1800/1600/1400 16v's or just use a original nova engine

What's your next motor going to be then mate or is it hush hush?

A bit hush hush and there are a few contenders so dont want to say anything just yet. Not going to be special enough for some people, but from the job i have and without using finance it should get some people talking lol

The RR is within your budget too. I agree though, they aren't my kind of thing either. My mate who had the Maserati now has the RR and loves it.

audi 1.8T engine ;)

if I crashed the S3 that's exactly what I'd do!

If it makes a 1450kg car do 0-60 in 6.5ish secs and onto 155 mph it would be fookin rapid in a bean can nova.

The other engine I'd love to see in a nova is a Z28 NET.

tbf i know what you mean ive always said phase 3 with front wheel drive is enough, but i know find my self looking at bigger turbos and stronger internals and light weight buckets seats etc, the seats will never happen as i suffer from a bad back and can lock up, the nova even with the comfy leathers nearly killed me last time i went 260miles in it, but the turbo is a possibility especialy since the seals are going on mine so would be rude not to upgrade lol

z28net would only be usefull in a straight line ask jack about v6 handling, i do want to fit one to my vectra gsi though and the mrs has said i can keep it as a project when i get her a new motor so watch this space slamed caged btcc inspired vectra gsi coming up lol

& I wont repeat why people keep harping on about it.

Edd
19-12-10, 08:20 AM
Everybody knows that bigblock nova's don't handle it's a fact

XE/LET's are just the easy choice for higher bhp

The new run of Ford engines are actually very good.

the duratec is a massivly tunable lump and is the xe of the future imo (in saying this i dont mean it will be in every nova under the sun more it will be a kit car main stay and end up in numerous rear wheel drive cars like escort mk1 and 2s were the xe has been popular for years)

Wazza024
19-12-10, 11:28 AM
Sometimes i often think of building a small block as i find them alot easier to have more fun in i think they handle better and can be quite nippy for small blocks. Don't get me wrong when i drive my let it puts a smile on my face to watch peoples faces as your going past them but they are crap at handling i think and seem to be more of a pain in the **** but i like learning about lets and reading everyone elses advice about them then it gives me a insight to these let engines. But i find with having the let you get bored of the power you have and want more.

You cant corner fast on a bike, so feck off :p any gaylord can go fast in a straight line lol.

Plus 99.9% of bikers are bellends thinking they can do wtf they like on the roads and that they are immune to the law, coonts.

The number of douche bag bikers I've seen fly past me at 60+ while in a 30mph village, and to then catch up with them when in the 60 zone of twisties and then try get the slow ass mofos to move out of the way is just annoying as fook.

I've seen bikers doing 'knee down yo' on massive roundabouts as I then drive round the feckers (without doing stupid speeds lol)

I'm sure being a power ranger is a great buzz for the massive acceleration avaiable, but as a 'fun' vehicle I simply cant see it.... Speed/G-Force in bends is more horny than flat out speed

Road bikes are only good for donating engines to go carts, smart cars and Bedford rascles

I've yet to experience a truly fast car. I love bikes though and as for the above argument of bikes vs cars, speed feels faster on a bike (if ya know what I mean) and you can corner fast(ish) on a bike but obviously a car will always be faster round the twisties.
