my car wont start!

i have a 1,4 8v nova and got all the new wiring in and managed to start it somehow! ...

anyway now i have put a battery on it and i turn the key fully and its not cranking...

i dont suppose any1 could help with getting it running???

Is the battery putting out 12v +/- ?

yes when i turn it over i can hear a faint noise last lasts for like 2 secs... you have to be quiet to hear it properly.

why what does that mean?

i jus bought a brand new battery? could it bve starter wires etc?
