can you guys help me plz?

I am thinking of respraying my car. My mate who did his said he'd give me hand but the things i really need to know are:

whats laquer for and what does it do? is it essential? how does this help protect the paintwork?

What can I do or use to try and prevent rust from occuring again.

sorry if these are basic questions but its the first time i've done anything like it just wanted to be safe.

Thanks

Regards
Gaz

lacquer - is just a clear layer on top of the paint. It adds protection as it's another layer between the outside elements and the actual paint colour. Normally only used on metallics and etc. Adds 'shine'.

rust - have to remove/grind out ALL of it. Then treat the area before painting. If there's any left, it will spread and come through in time.
