Well I picked it up yesterday, its a high miler but its got the history required (unlike many with even 1/4 of the miles) and it feels like a new car.

What a giggle these stupid cars are :) I wasnt sure even after numerous test drives, but getting out in it on my own has proven to be most satisfactory :) does the mpg I wanted/expected when cruising at 70mph so its ticked all boxes.... oh and the Mrs loved showing some youth whos boss when she went shopping lol.

Few niggles like leaking headlight washers and a melted wheel but they are easy/cheap to fix :)

Only 'plans' are to get a nasty set of 15's and put winter rubber on there and maybe look at the brakes since they feel a little wooly (although passed an MOT last week). Oh and to stripe it lol, if I'm going to have a ghey blue clio I might aswell fully chav it up :)

I didnt want to get a French car, but tbh there isnt much else out there that offers the bang per £.

As you say, an XE nova but with toys and comfort lol.

A mate I went to college with had an orange Cup 182, nice cars but he binned his at the Nurburgring lol then he got himself a Williams 2, which i preferred if I'm honest due to the "old-school" appeal

imho its faster than an N/A vx (well it sodding well should be too given they weigh similar and the clio has 20-40bhp more depending on what figures you believe.

Comfier and handles almost as well for a car I dont know yet.... Will be fixing that ASAP on a local airfield day (www.carlimits.com)

the VX is still on my driveway needing a little effort before selling

Pondering the RS stripes... in white or Anthracite. Or just not at all hmm

Std wheels stay put for summer use, but I want some winter rubber

Paul
12-12-10, 10:59 PM
They are wicked little motors, you going to show it some track abuse next year? Dont put any stripes on it!

lol My cousin asked wtf that light was on the dash... so we held it in the next gear and ohhh shift light lol... but its out of the way and a bit gay (to be expected)

VX is a cat C sold as damage repairable, it is really just cosmetic damage but due to its age and price of new parts it was C'd. I drove about in it for a month after the accident and would still do so now (but with a straight exhaust fitted). Not sure on price as yet but will sort that out next year

Yeah ive noticed alot of repaired(to a crap standard or just absolute dogs for sale)

(sorry to go off topic)but do you know a good buying guide or what to look out for?I looked on vx220.org but it seems out of date abit.I know to listen for knocking due to engine mounts, brittle header tanks, obviously look to see if it has been painted or clams are cracked and bolster wear.anything else you would suggest that is vx specific?

Well its been a touch over a month. I've had to fight with the mrs to drive it as she really likes it too :s damn.

The backbox has the usual renault rust but is now supported with a couple of jubiliiieeee clips lol, and I fitted some motorsport exhaust mounts as the oem ones are like cheese.
I even did the spudly approved drilling of the backbox to let all the water out so its no longer a steam train when over 5Krpm lol

Tbh its a perfect road car, just the std brakes are really really really crap which is a bit of a let down and surprise (but then they could be pattern part pads). Plan is to look at something a touch grippier but wont muller the wheels as I'm too lazy to clean them weekly.

Oh and I need to get hold of some remapping toolage as the Idle is sooooo poor its untrue, almost as if Renault contracted that part of the calibration to lageR lmao
