View Full Version : Cork or rubber?
Gasket that is.
What would seal better? I have used both before, and have used both on the particular type of engine i intend on changing (CVH)
At the moment im going with cork, as thats whats on there, and has served well so far. But is there any particular reason other than being able to reuse rubber, that people use rubber now?
EDIT- Its the rocker cover, ill be changing the cam etc next week.
you cant beat a good bit of rubber...................
i found the cork one's where better for the cvh (rattler engines):d

I must admit, although being perhaps a bit more crude, they seem to do the job better.
The C20 rubber gaskets are emmense! (not that cork are available!) But there are a piece or art.

Depends what engine it is, some of the rubber ones wont fit the older engines

Was told by an old school tech to grease a cork gasket. Did it on my Sport as the old one was p!ssing oil out and it works :)

Grease? Before?
One of the reasons for cork is that when it contacts with moisture it swells. So really its better in theory to fit it dry.............

Grease will soften the surfaces. Make it seal better.
IMO a cork one would be best.
I use gasket seal anyway lol

Gasket seal is prob one of the worse things to use.
Using grease is better than fitting it dry. Seems a bit backwards but it definately works!

Great, so you seal the cork from the moisture then. lol

Lol yeh, i take no chances!
But no i only tend to use gasket seal on crappy paper type gaskets used on water pumps etc
