is it a coil pack or dispack engine
If its a 'dis-pak' engine (doesnt have a dizzy) its a late one, if it has a dizzy then its early, thats about as accurate as you can get lol
Unless the engine code reads 20XE (with no 'C') then its pretty much definate its from a mk2 Astra GTE:thumb:
Mines a dis-pak XE in a K reg cav so is a later one....

Is there anyway to find out WHAT your engine came out of from the engine number?

No, loom can some times help. But only to Cav or Astra.
Epc?
edit, checked and i cant doit from an engine number, also EPC lists the 20XE as a cavalier engine too..

What's the point of the engine numbers then?
identification, when you put the reg into epc it tells you what engine is fitted from factory and what parts fit it.
