Right I thought I'd post this up to see if anyone can help.

I'll start with the coil wiring. It's originally a mk2 cav dizzy & coil. Dizzy has been modified by H&H for use with XE.

The first pic I have labeled up and hopefully its clear enough to see what's what. The only thing confusing here is the earth that i'm holding as when you crank the car over it goes live?! yet it comes from coil negative, and I assumed it was just an extra earth that had been added for the rev limiter.

Next up is one of the looms from the coil amp. You can see that an ignition live (Black) comes from the car and bridges to the coil positive and to the amp positive. The red wire from Coil positive goes to my rev limiter.

The Blue has been added, and as yet is connected to anything. I thought this was for my rev counter but should your rev counter feed not come from coil negative?? If this is not for rev counter any idea where its meant to be??

Finally browns are earthed to the chasis.

Second of the looms from the amp goes to the dizzy plug

If anyone can spot anything wrong here, or knows what to do with the spare wires I have it would be a massive help :d

Anyone got any ideas on this? I'm totally stumped

Cheers

with mine mate it was a hh kit, i had to earth a black wire out in the amplifier plug, then i had a ign+ down to the coil, anything from the negative coil is for the rev counter and usually a green wire? thats how mine was wired up and was fine

Mines done with the coil - to earth, (shell)

That brown looks like an extra wire found behind the headlight.

Try earthing the - negative, and disconnect rev limiter to fire it up, then connect up, to rule out a fault there.

Also the brown from the amplifier goes to the + if I remember correctly.

Try at your own peril though.

Actually, that brown is the "fire" signal, so should go to the 3rd pin on the coil.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have also been in contact with H&H who have been brilliant and got back to me really quickly.

I asked about the three wires I have from the amp which are black, brown and green. I have already earthed the brown to the chasis, and the green is joined to the blue wire in my pic which is the one I didn't know where it connected to and the black I have is connected to ignition live.

There reply was:

The green wire goes to the negative side of the ignition coil, you will need a 12 volt switchable feed for the + side of the ignition coil, I'm
not sure what the live is you have going to the amplifier though??? The only live for the ignition system should be the one on the + side of the
coil from the ignition or alternative source of 12 volt power.

So Nobby what you said makes sense. When you say you had to earth out the black from the amp, did you just earth it to the chasis along with the brown?

Thanks again
Ian
