Seriously i am at my wits end, he is a bengal cross and 6 months old.
He is the most destructive animal i have ever known, now i have had puppies and yes they chew and break things................but cats???
He chews anything and everything, he's also smashed a few items by knocking them off the drainer, window sills and shelves.
Also he is obsessed with food, i cannot keep him off the benches, dinner table etc when ever there is food about. He will attack for food.
He not only eats his but he then starts on the dogs.
Any ideas how to calm him down??:(
He's been castrated...:d
Start shouting at him and dont be afraid to give him a slapped ass, my (female) kitten is like this but she is gradually calming down as she doesnt seem to like being shouted at, nor does she like a smacked bum, just have to keep at it and eventually he should calm down:thumb:

See even as i'm sitting with laptop on my knee, he is trying to chew the corner off ( lol it's Sturges anyway)... but if i go and sit at the pc he launches himself at me, he pulls my hair and chews it.
It's funny cos he is a right mummys boy, and he follows me all over the house, i can't move for him under my feet, if i sit down he tries to lie on my chest and wedge himself under my chin..... Oh i do hope he grows out of it.

Baxter.......Bob attacks bare feet too. As for the food stuff...he gets wet food, dry food and occasionally milk, we were only told by the breeder that the kitten milk may be too rich and give him the squits, but she recommended which wet and dry foods to give him.

He has loads of toys...and a lovely expensive scratch pole, he also plays with the dogs toys, He is just a sh!t head, every time i put fresh flowers in a vase he pulls the heads off and rips all the petals/leaves off.
I have a long vase with decorative twigs and dried flowers in, we battle all day,he pulls it over and snaps all the twigs, i smack his ass and stand said vase back upright......5 mins later the cycle begins....:)
i heard catnip will mellow him out???

I disagree, as my eldest cat mog who is about eleven years old is a pure bengal tiger striped tabby and she is the most loving and ladylike cat ive ever met, my kitten ziva, although she is nutty and off her tits she aint half as bad as yours :p

Ha ha them cats are nuts my mum was one of the first people to start breeding them in this country she probably did it for about 10 years. Nice cats but a bit bonkers as you have said.
my cat was mental when i got it, it ripped all the carpets at least an inch from the wall, ripped the sofas, used to climb the wallpeper and door surrounds if a door was open, when you walked past the house you would see it climbing the curtains.
It attacked everyone who came in the house, couldnt have anyone to come in to feed it when on hols, it went mental! Really clingy with me though, follws me around like a bad smell, at first it used to try to come in the bath too!
I thought about getting rid of it but, decided that i could buy new carpets etc, but no-one else would put up with the cat, so it wuld either be put down or in a cage forever.Aww
At the age of 4 he decided to play with the 3 husies nect door....trip to tye vet but since that he has been reasonably calm and has only broken 2 tvs in the last years or so (jumping off things) worse than having a bloddy todler!
You will ahve to wiegh up whether you want the bother or not. Some craetures are just crazy.

He has chewed a lump from the carpet outside our bedroom door from wanting to get in.
It's not that i don't want the bother, i do, i love him to bits, he was the runt and only weighed just over 1lb when we got him at almost 14 weeks old.
I love animals and would have a house full of strays if i thought i'd get away with it.
Now he is rather big( length of my leg full stretch nose to bum) and it sort of hurts when he charges at me from behind and runs up my back digging claws in every step!! I just want to sort his behaviour out...:)

we had to strip the living room walls, as the cat desided to eat it,
and left half a carpet in there when we moved out, cat ate that aswell

Its normal. They grow out of it. We have 2 cats. The older one, when she was a kitten was a nutter. Still is but only so often!! The other one...well, he is a boy. Say no more!
Sorry, all you can do is persevere with trying to get it to behave, it will calm down eventually, just be patient, but cats suit themselves!

you have no chance with a tree
tub of pepper dust.........liberally sprinkled where you don't want the moggy to go..
i used to do that at carpet edges, also tried lemon and so on, depends on just how mental your cat is....mine still wrecked things but definately worth a try, also a water pistol, seriously!
You can also exhuast it by getting it going round in circles with a leaser pen, gives you a bit of piece.

And this is the little sod that rules this house ...lol
Don't smack the cats bum - pointless
Hit it on the nose - not a full on punch that would be cruel, but hard enough to make it blink and keep doing it until it stops.
Shouting and chasing the cat works (well does with mine)
My other suggestion would be buy a small cage that she can be put in when they are very naughty or when you are eating. At least then you can eat in piece and gradually the cat will learn.
Lock him outside when he is naughty?
as for refusing to go outside - it's a cat throw him outside and lock the door.
Do you do the claw on him? I.e cover his face with your hand in a claw shape.
Good luck I don't envy you though - our first was hellish until he went outside was like night and day.

as for refusing to go outside - it's a cat throw him outside and lock the door.He really does not like it outside, he is terrified unless the dog goes with him.
Do you do the claw on him? I.e cover his face with your hand in a claw shape.Yes we both do, but he thinks its a game and bites or just sits there like a plum.

Sounds like ive been lucky, Wispa was a nutter for the first six months, but he's not even a year old yet and he's calmed right down now and is quite frankly a pleasure :)
he does some odd stuff though. recently he decided to start ripping clumps of his own fur out with his teeth. Took him to the vet and she recommended a fellaway plug in de-stesser. It worked perfectly and he instantly stopped doing it. God know what he's stressed about, but i recon it was the bloody ferrel cats next door.
You may find it will do the same for your cat. :)

Get one of those water sprays and do him in the face with it everytime he's naughty.

She has, and apparently he just sits there and takes six or so shots in the face with it and doesnt budge lol
do him in the face everytime he's naughty.
:tard:
I'd just keep tapping his nose hard until he gets down.
As I suggested by a cage or a box to put him in when he is naughty. He will learn

it would work on sturge, but the cat isn't daft enough to fall for it...
I just get sent to the naughty step!
The cat however knows fine well he's doing wrong and carries on anyway. Much like the kids! I think a cattle prod is the way forward

I havnt read through the full thread as im a lazy sod so sorry if you have already got this info
I used to scoop one of my fellas up by the belly with one hand and throw him up in the air....Being a cat it would land on its feet but used to scare the pants(fur) off it
If it kept doing it i used to throw it higher....you need to sneak up on them and then the fright of it scares them and they will stop...you need to shout no at the same time so after a while the laud no shout will work
By the way I am an animal lover with 2 dogs 3cats and the above is not a piss take it works:thumb:.... I had him for 14 years and people used to laugh at how like a dog he was as he knew no meant no

Thats when you throw it higher and shout lauder(its all about the scoop, you scoop them up with a roar and quick 180 flip and leave them fly )please done get to exited and let them fly to much(seriously) ....Its all about doing it when the kitten isnt aware they have been caught in the act....Its the fright that they get afraid of..........then they learn climbing the tree/pissing in the hot press/robbing the sunday roast etc etc is a scary business and eventually stop
