Change your PNG profile picture to a cartoon character from your childhood and invite your friends to do the same, for the NSPCC. Until Monday (December 6th), there should be no human faces on PNG, but an invasion of memories. This is a campaign to stop violence against children.

so, please, somebody explain to me why downloading a google image will help a child... i am a father of 3 & wouldn't dream of performing an act of violence against them... sticking a ds on the top shelf is good enough punishment...

sticking a piccy on the interweb will not exactly prevent a drug addled thug smashing a child against a wall because they have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

its ok, but if the bloke ever turns up round here again, i'll be in the papers.....he rented a flat in london in the week & when arrested, that was his official address, i couldn't convince the local weekly rag to print one single word about it.......his wife worked with kids & he was involved in loads of stuff in the area... i actually quite liked the man.

I agree with your point but I have real issues with the 'won't somebody think of the children, wailign voice, arms flailing' approach where it's insinuated that there is a peado on every street corner (not suggesting that's where you are coming from btw).

You can only teach your kids well, try and instill some common sense and keep an eye on their surfing habits - wrapping them in cotton wool and shielding them from the world is no way to go about it, or to grow up for that matter.

It's easy enough to know wether you "know" a person without looking at the picture.
And in that respect, changing pics to cartoon characters helps to hide people's identity. In fact, a fiddler could be hiding behind the face of a well known cartoon so the kids recognise that and feel more comfortable talking to them - in essence this whole thing could be taken to HELPING paedophiles rather than working against them.

This IMO is true to a degree, even when I was a wee kid I was well aware what constituted appropriate and inappropriate behaviour from an adult. We were always taught (in school and at home) even the "strangers" that offer sweets to get in the car etc could still be someone we recognise or knew, and hence the thing about always telling our parents where we were going etc.
