I have opted not to use the head, pistons have also been replaced. Im sure mine was running lean/pinking or somthing similar.
I would find another head and work with that.

Yes lots of predetonation.
Depending on depth of the pitting the head maybe salvageable, but probably safer to replace.
Didn't click if you already have a machine shop, I have used AMAC at Northallerton, not sure he's into turbo's, but builds race engines for allsorts, the racing Jag E type he has prepared for a customer is something else, experienced on all sorts seen Lotus Sunbeams, as well as run of the mill cars

I never seen mine running before I got it so was a bit chancy, however I was going to rebuild anyway. My head was too far gone to be honest. At that time I wanted to run big power, it wasnt going to be worth the risk.

Thats a detonation problem, thats all there is to it. probaly caused from incorrect fuel pressure having never run a wideband and running incorrect afr's. Get the head welded and skimmed, get the block rebore and buy 0.5 mm oversize genuine mahla pistons. Quite simple but maybe not so kind on the pocket. If you need the head doing either contact gaz-d on mig or steveboyslim as im sure your rebuild parts will come from him :)
