got a problem with starting !!!!!

hi i have a nova which was a 1.2 carb and now its a 1.4 8v spi. everything is connected up, put a battery on it and i get the battery light and the oil light i think,

when i turn the key it will turn and no ticking over.....

i thought it was the starter motor wires- i have a black/red wire and white/blue or green. there is also a think blak wire that is not connected to anything. does this matter??? also where do they go so i can check if i got them right..

just after the engine was in we starrted up so i know it runs its just something i havent done or done something wrong that i need help with??

can anyone help???? i want my car on the roadd:cool:

basically i have a in line fuel pump as im still running the old tank of the carb engine. but at the min its got no fuel going to it, i just wanted to hear it tick over you no what i mean ?

hi there mate have u checked your earth from the engine to the body see if this helps n let me know :)

hi mate on my earth terminal i have a wire from the terminal to the little metal bit near the started motor. the actual earth is bolted to the metal chassis right on top of the gearbox,

have i done something wrong??
