Are the two coolant hoses at the back of the engine that go into the heater matrix hot? could be a circulation issue, had lots of them at work caused by this cold snap. Try changing the thermostat if the water isnt circulating followed by the waterpump.

removing the stat will make the car run colder.

its an old car, the rad & matrix are probably in need of flushing thru.

it is also freezing cold at the moment, so the rad is cooling the coolant more than usual.

are you sure it is not something simple like the heater control???

Has it got antifreeze in? my gf's corsa got too warm on the tempertaure gauge but the heaters were stone cold. No antifreeze in it!

Cable may have detached at the heater?

This happened with mine, the Cable broke and it was stuck on cold but when I put my hand in to fix it you could fill the heat through the plastic on the matrix cover

Ive got a similar problem just replaced the matrix and the flap is open and although there is some heat coming through it just doesnt feel enough to the point that with the blowers on full power it actually cools down the air coming through.

Sorry - but that is absolute poop. lol

Antifreeze is there to stop the water from freezing and has nowt to do with the temp of the engine!

Just detach the one going in to the side of the head and the one going to the back of the pipe and then just blow hard. its nothing happens then its blocked can always just try and force it through just jam a hose in to on of thoose pipes and turn the hose on. usually works a treat and if runs through fine and isnt blocked then check the cable to the heater control box thingy! if no good check the thermostat is opening by taking it out and boiling it in your mums best pans! its it opens its all good if it doesnt you know what to do. but i doubt its that otherwise you would notice it overheating, but this weather is a bit ****e

sounds like its a case of not enough uncle freeze and the matrix is full of ice lol check all pipes when the car has been left overnight to see if there start to freeze up plus check expansion bottle as well
