An old boy next to me recons to put chains on the rim?. He says thats how you get around in the snow im 50 50 what hapens if the chain snaps? lol
and how are you going to drive to a place that has snow chains in stock?????? for your car????
i'm on 185/55r15s and am driving round in 6" of snow on country roads without too much bother, but you have about 18" up there, so if the road hasn't been ploughed, don't go out

Put a MK1 Snowplough on it lol
There was one person in jan/feb near me with snow chains, and he was charging up/down our road at normal speed overtaking people sliding about lol personally I wouldn't bother as it limits you to driving on roads covered with snow, so you can only go to the corner shop and back because you cant use mains roads.. :p
3 mins to fit/remove.
Can be worthwhile. I've never personally needed them though.

Do you pull over and change your tyres when it rains too? lol
At work we are selling them for £49 includeing vat but order them from a supplier of snowchains. honda crv's are abit of a problem if they have 18s lol (work for john banks honda) but every one has a diff opinion on them :)
IMO wouldnt bother
they are a legal requirement in the alps, and austria, but other than that, don't bother...

buy some suitable snow tyres
Or have a 4x4 like me
I have snow tyres - driving around Oldham where they were up to about 9 inches of snow yesterday was fine even on all the steep bits.

I use to run my SR on a full set of snows Vredstein snow stars mounted on 13" weller wheels, went any where I wanted up to 10" snow, that was why it's called a snowplough spoiler!! As it use to have a load of snow stuck to it

or if you want to get around in the snow walk lol
what about just using some 10mm blue nylon rope around the tyre (between the spokes)? thats got to work a bit better and screw the tarmac up less

I'm waiting for some numpty to do that but not tie it up tightly enough, then wonder what ripped through the brake flexi hose lol.

that is absolutely the worst thing you could possibly do.. the blue rope is really not strong in any other way than a straight pull.. it would be pretty much impossible to fit it safely & uniformly to a tyre, and then when it flies off before you have got it into second gear, it will snarl up on a driveshaft & tear everything out.
just lower your tyre pressures a bit to give a larger footprint & drive slowly.

Or learn to drive in snow and go out in your car, seemples:p

I thought you wanted a smaller footprint

As above i out performed my mates old cav turbo with (iirc) 225 width 18s on, in my lil 1.1 mk3 fez purely as it had skinny little tyres on like 105's or shomething from a shopping trolley as he was just flailing about all over the shop and i cut through and buggered off lol
when the tyre is deflated, it has a larger flat footprint, and it hugs the contours.. ok, its not the quickest way, but it works.
studs are more based on sheer speed & friction...and not much use on speedhumps

Theres a fukktard round here who has a tractor who took it upon himself to plough our road,BUT blocked ALL drives and the kerbs with 2 and half foot piles of snow down the whole street,so folk had to shovel it all back LOL
Now the road is like what can only be described as an off road challenge lol
Fukktard much?? lol

Easy to spot the ones in Reading as they're generally on fire.

Not funny, nowhere to park and treacherous footpaths, majority of the population around my area are old aswell
safest place for the elderly at the moment is in the warm in their own home, and if a neighbourly person checks on them, then that is fine. thats what i do for all my elderly neighbours..
you can't complain about living on a hill, you weren't exactly forced to live there by an angry axe wielding mob, were you?????

being able to drive in the snow is one thing but i endid up in a ditch yesterday morning after a tarmac wagon coming the other way decided to overtake the car it was following going up a hill. i came over the top of said hill and didnt have anywhere to go so i aint going out if i dont have to. its other people you have to worry about. with regards to chains i wouldnt bother, get some steel wheels with winter tyres on them
Danny I saw a car with those on in my work carpark earlier, what're they called?

All the kids emptied the grit bins playing with it over the summer, and now the parents moan about the pavement being icy outside school...

So? get onto your council then:thumb:
in hinckley a couple of summers ago, some lads pushed the grit bin down the path & tipped it up across the only entrance to the police station yard.... it took the assembled power of the council & the emergency services 2 days to shift it... in the meantime, they simply parked all the cop cars on the path and on the yellow lines..... double standards.
