Bought a nova redtop today. Drove it home first 2nd 3rd an fourth are all no prob but if you go from 4th to 5th the revs go up as if it is in 3rd. He told me its an f16 close ratio gearbox. Any1 any ideas thinking maybe the selector was welded wrong.

sounds like its going into third, try re-aligning the gear linkage.

As above and then make sure that the lug has been cut off by the gear stick.

If you take the gaitor off there is white 'thing' at the base of the stick, chop the right hand one down a bit at a time til you can get 5th

car will only have the lug it it was a 4 speed before

Took me ages to realise why i couldn't get 5th too!

ine still had it on, and hadnt been cut at all, got 5th no prob on f20. was 4 speed when i bought it, just depends on the individual linkage i guess. got a calibra shifter now so problem solved :)

Same here never had to cut the lug off on any of mine to get fifth.

you know if its going in to a wrong gear if the engine feel under more pressure! but yeh ther lug on the linkage need longing by just forcing it out of its shoulder like thing! and if it has the 4 speed linkage CHOP IT!!!!

So is this lugg on the selector at the gearbox end or on the gearstick end ? Thanks for the help also

IMO the linkage needs setting up. I struggled to get reverse on mine. Set up the linkage, all sorted.

You don't need to cut the lug off, I've only had 5 speed novas and always been able to allign the gears perfectly well.
