View Full Version : How hard is it to change a 1.2 engine to a 1.4sr

Need HELP/ADVICE on engine change, mate was going to change it but he's fcuking me about, so im tempted to do it my self now, i've never changed an engine before but i've changed everything else on my nova tho, so do u guy think i should have a go?i got 2 take the 1.4 out of my 1.4sr donor then out the 1.2,

get a haynes manual and it tells you exactly what to do to take the engine out. Keep the 1.2 head on and put the cam in from the 1.4.
That should send you from 55bhp to around 75bhp if you get a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold aswell.

ok then i have no engine hoist and have heard a few peeps on here do it without one, whats the best way to do it ?also up or down

take wheels and disconnect dirveshafts and all that cr@P
drop engine out bottom of car by droppin engine to the floor, then jack car up so u can slide it out from underneath, then vice versa
push engine under
lower car down as low as possible
jack engine up into place
bolt up
we found we cudnt quite jack enough, so i managed to lift the front end of the car enough to get an extra brick under (breeze block) once the car is poast a point its easy enough to lift the front end.....
if all else fails, you can slide it in through the biggest wheel arch if you need an extra inch or so, think dirvers side is easiest

wat did u drop the engine ontothe old one?
thin sheet of mdf i found in garage so it was shiney i could drag it out easyily enough, new one went in on a skateboard :D
