laptop has gone mad

hello guys right might aswell get straight to the point,when i press i,it comes up 5 or if i press p it comes up *,i have to hold a button that has got fn on it,ive turned the laptop off a few times lets me log in normally,but then does this number thing when i go on the net,driving me crazy

you haven't accidently changed the keyboard layout to another language or assigned keys to other places?

function, it's like a shift key for keys that do something, it's normally coloured, and whatever colour it is will match up to symbols, normally on the top row of a laptop keyboard, I have one for brightness, volume, power options, mute and to switch the output to a projector.
