View Full Version : Heading up norf (need travel advice)
Right, heading up to Halifax on Friday for my cousins wedding on the Saturday. Aiming to get up there about 5.
Now do I go up the M6 then round manc town (top or bottom?)
Or go up the M1?
So local peeps, which way is best to avoid getting stuck in traffic on a Friday afternoon?
Edit - heading up from Cornwall

i would of thought that doing the M5,M42 and M1 wouldn't be too bad in the early afternoon

edit i would fly to leeds bradford airpot no traffic in the sky lol or set off ealy morning
and mr hobbit!! you are a trucker are you not, and the law states, NEVER ask for directionslol
nope, that is a van driver thing.......
highways agency website before you leave, and radio 5 live on the quarter past & quarter to, are your friends..
i voted m5 m6 m62.
m1 on a friday is truly cack. there is always an accident near j25 (derby/nottingham) then the bit past sheffield is slow, and the m1 has way bigger hills, so the wagons run slower, and so do the cars...
but obviously be prepared to change it.

where ya having you meal???
the m6 is flowing way better than the m1 today.. the east side of the pennines got the worst of the weather, and the west side didn't.....
Stop being faggots. We have it all up here. It's been blizzarding again. 15" on the garden table. 8"+ on the grass and a good 5" still on the paths. Then there's the ungritted and unploughed roads...
Newcastle and outlying areas have it too, just not as bad. Not that the biased local news would have you believe... The County Durham area is cattle trucked. I'm sure wwmnw and dannysp etc will agree.
You will encounter but a sprinkling on your excursion to the 'north'. lol
I've got some funky snow radar up used by the gritter wagons and it looks like the snow is there to stay up your way lol
if I could do a screen grab I'd show you how bad it looks
Please try lol. Posh government software ftw.
What have you guys got down there, still nothing? I know there's SFA in Taunton. Hard to imagine really. I think the north/south divide is really happening...

lol
well west Cornwall is getting a bit but nothing on the Devon/Cornwall borders
Wonder if they wanna swap. I can offer my Corsa. lol
basically, god dumped on the bit from mansfield to barnsley,
we sent a wagon round delivering tonne bags of salt today to concrete works in the eastmids... one near lincoln was shut because of snow & we got our artic on clear roads straight their yard...... cue major rollocking of an area manager about his staff shirking off
couldn't do a screen grab so took a pic on my phone, uploaded it on facebook then deleted them before Donna noticed lol
