I'm looking peoples thoughts on competition engine mounts for a 1.6 8v rally car. What do people use? Who supplies them? Are they worth the money over standard ones? Just any advice people have really.

The suppliers I'm aware of are:

Harry Hockly

and Pro-Tec Performance

Has anyone any experience with either of these?

I've purchased from ProTec before and they're helpful, they get back to you quickly if you drop them an email too if you wanted to check with them that they're suitable for a 1600.

Pro tec ones work fine, you need to redrill the mounts as they use a single bolt fixing which is on the large side.

Just to add, they are miles better than standard one

I fitted the new engine mounts last weekend but the front left mount doesn't fit, it seems to be too wide. Rang the supplier and he says that due to the chassis plating kit I have installed there isn't enough space for the competition mount.

Has anyone fitted competition mounts along with a HH-MS style plating kit? How did you make it fit?

I havent fitted the engine, but I have had the mounts in the bay, and with the HHMS kit.

Is your problem that you can't get the nut onto the bolt?

Alot of people have this issue.

No the problem is that the mount is too wide, or more accuratly that the space is now too narrow. It pushes the whole engine over to the passengers side.

i have the same mounts as the ones you bought and found that my front right mount was too narrow and could float about. rear mount was fine and i dont think i ever fitted the front left.
i only drove it once with just the front right mount in before i took the engine out the car.

oh, what a surprise..... blame the other stuff..... nearly every competition nova there is has a chassis plating kit, so thus nearly every competition engine mounting kit must fit round them.........

if the original engine mounting points are used, they only get strengthening around them & not on the original mounting points themselves..... so they must still be in the original position...

personally, i think the mounts are not very accurately made.

And how did that work out for you? Do you also have the plating kit?

I have the ones made my COMPBRAKE in preston, they are fully alloy bodies with the same rubber inserts. i have the strengthening kit too and had no issues with them aligning in the wrong place or anything. spot on price wise too.
