View Full Version : ITBS - jenvey/omex running issues.
This is rather amusing really and seeing as your an unbiased lot thought I'd post on here. It belongs in muppet as its a clio and they are for muppets :P
When cold with an Jenvey setup/omex mgmnt would starting the car be a pain in the ****. By this i mean, would it take around 5 attempts to get it to idle at 1krpm. When i start the clio, it pops bangs farts and backfires *at the inlet* then usually cuts out this gets better and then will behave once its slightly warmer.
From that, one say town driving in traffic etc or slow starts would you expect a judder at all and have to raise the RPM to around 2k to smooth out this problem?
Now before some smart **** comes along "spud" and says Thats clios for you, I belive it to be the map, but with me buying the car in a prebuild form i have no idea if this would be the case.
There is no actual running problem once warm apart from the lower rpm thing in slow traffic/slow starts.
I can't post this on cliosport due to the fact the car was built by a company called GDI who are well shoddy and have a poor reputation on there. I'd just like to give myself a bit of an insight as to the problem without throwing lots of money at it if its something simple as the map which will just need a reptuable company like RS tuning to sort out. ATM I'm 100% sure it will be a mapping issue, but its annoying me and I want to sell it already lol.
Any ideas?
apart from checking things like the cts are ok, and whether or not you need to route some warm air to the intake, i'd say the map does sound dodgy
Oi nob bag, im actually quite sold on clios these days after spending a few years at a mainstealer lol
Id say its possibly just on a basic map and needs fine tuning, get it to your local rolling road place and get them to have a look, but stick with it as you cant fall or be knocked off a clio :p
Btw, what did you actually part with for this in the end, purely out of interest?
Pmsl I knew that would upset you :P
Im not telling you spud, but It was cheap for the spec. Below is a printout after the mapping session when it was first built. 21/09/09
would this engine have a dizzy or not?? or is the crank sensor badly adjusted??

Cheeky fooker, ill remember that when you want prices and part numbers lol
Pm me a round figure, im just curious is all bud!
your image is experiencing a fail.
Its coilpack mowgli, thing is once driving its pretty smooth tbh. Its just the initial start up and pulling away from lights and in traffic.
It feels like i have a paddle clutch but im pretty sure its std, if that makes sense to how it pulls away.
If it's cammed heavily it generally won't be happy at low revs unless you map it ridiculously well, and most people won't pay the money for the mapper to sit for 4 hours tweaking the low throttle low revs part of the map on a performance car. My 1.6 had a random unknown cam in it and wasn't happy til 2.5k really, it then loved it from 4k+ mind lol

bottom half of it is pretty shaky, it may well benefit from another look at the map, it's not really smooth until max power, probably told them to work on that for however long he hired them for to get the bit he was most bothered about perfect, and leave the bottom end of the rev range.
I'll get it upto RS tuning when my legs a bit better, If spending £300-£400 on a mapping issue makes the car easier to live with I can cope with that.
Bear in mind it may well also be the cam setup etc, I'm not sure how much of the "cammed cars dont idle" thing can be mapped out, best off asking Stu for experience of what happens when you've got all week and limitless funds to mess with a map.
STD engine Mk, Stu said he'd map it for me... but I dont trust the gay fairy :P

The rate has now gone from a cuddle to £500 :P lol
How far are you from BTM ? The only two folks on CS that appear to have a clue about TB's is Fred@BTM and sidewaysdanny, but SWD is very near me so no good for you.
Other than that, try the usual mapping suspects your way (MSD, noble etc)
i had this problem with mine, it was the base map witch was playing up, i used http://www.atspeedracing.co.uk/ , bit of a mission for you, but they are very helpfull, and dont rip your a*se out on the price. i also had a duff throttle postion sensor, witch added to the running problem.

my xe did this as well before I got the map changed. By the sounds of it whoever mapped it never gave you a cold start bit at the beggining of the map. I think my fuel was increased when the air temp read less than 20.c then staggered down as the engine warmed up. As for the pulling away from junctions get the cams dialed in and have the map tweaked may not be enough fuel or ignigtion. I dont think the size of your cams would cause the pulling if there on correct timing i run a 296 inlet and a 304 exhaust and it pulls away fine at low revs. If you can get it to RS tuning in leeds as suggested after doing a rr day and seeing some of the car they have mapped its well worht the journey. Hope this helps :thumb:
as said the map seems pretty fluffy down below, Might be worth before chucking it in for a full remap for a quick readout to see if its still on that one as you said it was from first built.
STD engine Mk
Proper **** map then lol
does it still have the dephaser pulley?
As others have said lamost certain to be the map. I guess it's where the cold start/cold running storied come from with TB's. Mine will start first go and idle on it's own, even in this weather :thumb:
Stoooo yes it still has the dephaser pully, It costs a **** load to bin the system off matey.
its been setup for 'max powah init bruv'
Needs a proper cold start calibration along with some road manners from the looks of it
It certainly needs a cold start and road mannors as a daily its annoying, it could be fun on track like lol.
I will have to wait now for a while as its comming off road from saturday :(
Yeah definently a mapping issue.
How well does it seem to go compared to a standard cliosport?
And finally, sell it me.
Adam if you want it make me an offer matey...
Im struggling to drive it atm my ankle likes to lock up all the time :(
Planning on keeping it till after xmas???
what you need is a gheymo electronic throttle'd car :p lol
