View Full Version : hot hatch?
why is it that whenever tv shows and mags do hot hatch features they never seem to even consider the nova? ive seen many of these and always the same names come out golf gti, citroen saxo, xr2, xr3, rs pretty much all fords even peugeot 205 gti's for gods sake but never the poor old nova ive driven all of them at some point over the years and my heart still stays with the nova there not with out fault but they do have great looks and are lots of fun.
maybe because the "hot hatch" tag brings unwanted attention hence why most nova owners play down the tag
i prefer the term..."shed" or "my lil rotbox"

Doesn't this go way back to how they were presented back in the day? For instance didn't most of the TV ads for the Golf use the GTI version, when all but one of the TV ads for the Nova featured base models. I think its all in the image, theres no family friendly saloon model of the 205, Golf (badged as a golf at least), or Saxo for example.
Besides features like this always tend to be the same, with the writers behind them playing it safe and basically choosing the same things everyone else does.
fair enough i just thought it wierd they dont get the recognition they deserve even tho quite clearly a lot of people love them and ive never had a car like my current nova for attracting good attention ive got an astra vxr and i never get people comeing up to me at petrol stations etc saying thats nice mate but a week doesnt go by without a nice comment on the nova and it isnt exactly a mint show car i use it every day for work its tidy and usually clean but thats it.
Novas were marketed as a jack of all trades, which they were. Astra got the attention as a hot hatch, as the Nova GTE/GSi was merely a cooking model lol
The only hot nova is a stolen one IMO.
Agreed, the Astra was the real hot hatch :thumb:

Novas were only hot when they being burnt out, as said the Mk1 Astra GTE then Mk2 were the range toppers
how can you class a saxo as a hot hatch lol
I don't think it will be remembered as a hot hatch tbh, same as the Nova. In fact they're both similar; small granny mobiles that have a chav reputation, and the "hot" models are lukewarm at best.

Vauxhall would have fitted the XE to the Nova if they had ever wanted it to be "hot"
saxo vts is a fun little car to drive with a few bits on, and pretty rapid for a 1600
