i certainly agree, itds just made doing asll framing and ****, its built for 4x4 then. but space framed like one on here will be light, which is win, just the transfer box's are a bit ****e on the 4x4 c20lets

my mates a subaru tech and i used to work at the garge aswell. if the engines are well looked after they last well. customers that treat them well n bring them in for every service usually have no problems and easily see huge milages.

The english engines are weaker due to cast pistons etc iirc.
STI imports had blueprinted/forged engines, and ran more power.

Prft its not an evo engine so its not even good bloody poobarus.. prft

Looks like its comming along mind, and im sure it could be chassis twisting fun I really hope they do some chassis work, the torque will really kill that poor little nova.

It still has a nova floor pan/chassis. They split the chassis legs under hard driving with a C20XE with 140lbf... Imagine what 350/350 would do to the poor thing.

And its not really everything from the scooby, its just the engine, box and running gear. Its unfinished atm, so who knows what else he has planned.

Jack
28-11-10, 09:19 PM
Should be. All JDM cars are (or were)/should be limited to 112mph. Its not hard to delimit them though.

Mind you, all JDM models are "supposed" to be 276bhp. Its usually EU/UK models which are higher power (see Supra, 3000GT). Again, its usually not hard to swap the odd bit to get the power.

Rexy
28-11-10, 10:44 PM
mowgli, have you driven an impreza at all?

I've driven a classic, owned a newage 2003 WRX and test drove a newage 2002 STI.

They just well I dunno its hard to explain really. The seem to do the job, but there not all bells and whistles in honesty I always found them well boring.

Granted the evo wasnt massive power by any means but it was so much better at what it did over any of the imprezas I took out the evo was a 1998 R plate evo 5. And to me felt more agressive looked better too. The imprezas have always been cheaper and thus earned the following they have with the evo's being a more premium brand and a lot more technology and equipment going into their cars.

They both get smoked by Nova xe's mind :P :thumb:

You need to try an impreza mowgli you will either love it or hate it.

everyman rally day 5 years ago. got to drive an evo (few years old) & a brand new roadgoing imprezza on a runway course.. maybe it was cos the evo was some old press car (no carpets. no cage) and had been round the block a few times, but it was like an old L200 pickup inside, and felt rotten, but the scooby was fantastic. and trying to get my head round how to load up the tyres to get it really going in the corners was great...

I've had a shot in a couple of Impreza's, wasn't overly impressed with them. Have yet to drive a Lancer though, but I already know Mitsubishi customer care is disgustingly hopeless. Subaru score much better there, my sister was well looked after by the local dealer with hers.

Still, the Impreza is a bit of a chav icon which puts me right off. Same goes for the R33 and Supra :(

Good to hear.

In regards to the scooby vs Evo discussion.

I used to work at an "Import" garage, and have driven various Evo's and Subarus. Out of the lot the most fun was definitely a Makinen Edition Evo 6. I actually borrowed an STI WR1 Impreza; 500 in the country, 316bhp standard and 0-60 in under 5 seconds. Insanely quick but handle like a trolley in comparison to an Evo of equal age, which is what puts me off them. Also as stated above, the styling of an Evo is alot more "extreme" and they aren't common as muck like older Impreza's so they do look something special when out on the roads.

Its already been done to a few Corsa over the last few years.

One of which, albeit a shell, is up on eBay for £3k at the moment.

10/10 to him!! i swapped my xe corsa for a scooby, best thing i ever did, love it!!
i've had millions of 'type subaru engine rattle into google' jokes and such forth but at the end of the day, so long as they're serviced regular, warmed up and cooled down properly, they're no different to any other 2.0l turbo engine. they're prone to going bang because idiots dont understand them and whack massive boost pressures through a standard engine and then de-cat them and wonder why they go bang!!
i reversed mine over a 2foot drop the other day on accident - nothing wrong with it at all, its perfectly fine so they defo get my vote on being bulletproof if it can survive my driving lol

That's bonkers! Having owned a Subaru impreza and driven loads of evo's belonging to mates, I think they are both mental cars! My classic was bog standard, I was the third owner, with a fully stamped dealer history which I kept up. Out of the box they are simply awesome cars. Mine got updated dampers and a nice exhaust and enjoyed. Bags of power when you want it and the wife could drive it like a 1 litre subaru justy. Evo's seem to be a little more bonkers.

8valve-craig
08-03-13, 01:15 PM
I always used to go for the Legacy Turbo's. They were better owned and maintained, never modified and had the same EJ20 setup.

Even they have a following now, but still a lot less chav.

Im considering undergoing this project myself but worryed about the legalities if it. I was planning to keep the car road legal would it be registered as a nova or a subaru. Obviously the chassis number from the nova would be removef becsuse would be using the flourpan from the subaru. Id prefer it to be registered as nova because when the police pull you over and the reg comes bsck as a subaru but it looks like a nova. It would take some explaining. Also are there any mot testers on the forum that know what problems I would have. Any help would be greatly appreciated

kent14sr
08-07-13, 09:34 PM
To do this properly, it would require an SVA (single vehicle approval) by VOSA and at this point it would be assigned an appropriate number plate. I would expect the make would be kit car or similar.

An SVA would be required due to the changes that would be made to the key chassis components

theworx
08-07-13, 09:41 PM
Ive built kit cars in the past and done sva test and I dout this would ever pass. Was hoping I could get away with that. Was thinking of buying a nova that has already been registered as a 2 litre and gust drive it on the nova plates. Just wondering if there would be complications at mot. I could keep the chassis number from the nova and weld it into the right place by the drivers seat

Southie
08-07-13, 10:10 PM
If you think it wouldn't pass god help you trying to build a dodgy car and have a crash, build it right and get the proper tests done...

8valve-craig

Good luck when you accidently kill someone then.

Edit ^beat me to it.

theworx
08-07-13, 10:22 PM
Im an engineer and would make sure it would be done properly. The problem is with the new sva test the exterior dimensions of a nova would not pass the sva guidelines. So wanted to do it leagaly but find a loophole to avoid sva. I want it to look like a nova but if I had to get it through the sva I would have to round off most of the novas edges and lose the shape of the nova witch would be defeating the object of using the nova shell in the first place
