Hi

Been out at Castle Combe today and had awesome fun slip sliding around in the snow in the Nova!

Anyways, the gearbox is on it's way out, 3rd gear synchro is pretty non existant and 4th gear is following on suit.

We ideally want a slightly longer final drive or 4th gear, as changing up into 5th 100m or so before Avon Rise was a waste of time, but keeping it pinned in 4th meant it hit limiter at 117 mph.

How would we go about getting a longer 4th? Is there a box out there that will fit straight on that has a longer final drive or anything? Would diesel boxed be any good? Sorry, I'm not up together on which boxes fit and which don't!

Cheers
Dan :)

P.S This is what happens when you let me lose in a redtop Nova on ice...

And then flick it back round...

ive been told that 1-4th are all on the same shaft and only 5th can be removed so looks like a change of diff?

(edit) im talking about a F13, unsure if other box's are the same.

Well, an XE :) valver :tard:

Not heard about changing 4th, but you fit the 5th gear from a F18 to get a longer, well, 5th!

There are different ratio F20 too, there is a thread somewhere about them

ps. looks like you had a good giggle!

is the late astra gsi XE not a long ratio box? hence it having 160 on the clocks not 140

It is an early c20xe engine, out of a Mk2 Astra GTE if that helps? I can't guarantee its the same box, but considering the synchros are so screwed I'm guessing its never been apart! lol

if funding permits, get an SCCR so you will be well into 5th by the time to get to Avon Rise....

That, or an F16 is closer and limits at about 104 (tyre radius dependant) so you will be in 5th a tad earlier...?

Yeah only issue is the wheelspin I was getting when it was just wet today in 3rd gear, and also a bit in 4th. I'm running Yoko AD08 tyres on the front too.

In the dry would probably be amazing, just crazy in the wet! lol

Funding for an SCCR box, I don't even want to look at prices. It's going to be horrible isn't it lol :(

find out which final drive you have to then see if there is a longer one you could use to stay in 4th
