hi im just starting a new project after spending most my time building cars for other people i thought it was about time i started my own

ive just bought a mk1 nova sr and im just thinking of what engine to pick

i dont want to stick with the norm buy using a a 20xe or let was thinking about the c25xe but i wanted something different

was thinking of using the saab 2.0 turbo as ive heard it mates to the f20 gearbox so would make things easyer

just wanted to know if anyone on here has used this engine before and wanted advice on any complications that i may find

like does it fit in the bay for starts

any advice would be greatfull no matter how small

tbh, as common as xe's and lets are nowadays in corsa's and nova's theres a good reason - they work, they fit easily, parts are fairly easy to come by and problems are easy to solve as so many people have done it before.

is it going to be a daily motor or just a toy?? for a daily i'd say stick to whats known, for a toy, why not try it??

good read that thread mike -cant believe i didnt see that corsa at pvs though :( would have liked to have seen that run!!

oooo looking forward to seeing it!!

me and ste having a debate about the future of my corsa atm, i was insistent on having a let in it after christmas but hes pointed out that the extra weight plus an f28 will affect the way it handles (it sticks like sh!t to a pan) so as all im after is a reliable 200bhp i dont know whether to throw caution to the wind and have the let or stick with the xe and put throttlebodies on it, decisions decisions lol i'll surprise him when he comes home and say i want a saab lump in it lol

why not go for cheaper TB's mike

why not go for cheaper TB's mike

QED can supply a kit of TB's, rail, loom, ECU etc with a base map for a 20XE motor (standard or modified) & basically anything else I can afford/want in one nice simple box delivered to the door. Saving hassle of getting bits from here & there an then chosing what management, sourcing it, sourcing a loom etc etc.

Keep things simple, its the best way IMO. Will just leave me to get some H rods, visit Autosprint for headwork, valve train & cams, flywheel & clutch, balancing & then assembly here at home.

Thats the plan anyway lol

the cars not going to be a daily driver its mainly going to be a pod car and maybe the odd weekend on the road

ive already just finnished a 20xe and fancy a change

ive read all the threads i can find on fitting the saab engine into an astra but not found anything on fitting into the nova

think im gunna just throw caution to the wind and give it a go

whats the worst that can happed :p

the saab engine is to wide for a nova engine bay, you would have to chop a chassis leg off lol

claire6069
26-11-10, 11:28 PM
lol now THAT would be different!!

siby

LEH vxr engine, stand alone management, be the first to make it work.

different is never easy anyway so rise to a challange worth doing.

i was gona do this in my astra but i cant really be ased with cuttin my o/s chassis leg out you need a speed signal so that it will run the ecu so abs or some kind of swensor needs needs to be fitted, you can use the f20 box an shafts but the saab boys reckon it wont last long, then you need a mini loom making up consisting of 2 relays not quite sure also the engine will sit high in the bay just my 2 pennys

also have a look at this
