Me mam has just put me on her insurance, long story short I was about to drop her off and thought I'd best check to see if the car has had anti freeze put in it, turns out it hasn't (or I'm looking at the wrong tank but it says coolant on the cap)

What can I do to unfreeze it as at this rate its going to be a few months before the car can be driven lol good thing she put me in the insurance or as she said, she'd have just got in and started it.

Take off some hoses and pour warm,NOT HOT down them and into rad etc

heat gun, hair drier, pouring warm water over it etc........... but if it turns over by being pushed in top gear with the plugs out, then it will probably run ok.... are the hoses squeezable?? if yes, then fire it up

Will try the warm water thing, I haven't really got any tools here to take the plugs out I don't think, I squeezed a couple of pipes and they felt ok, I'd better check the rest.

Limp - ya lost me there mate.

Limp, I didn't get it lol well the pipe to the bottom of the rad don't feel frozen (can squeeze them together) same with the one from the top just the water in the header tank.

Just fire it up ffs lol

Wall

(Don't actually do this)

Either heat the header tank 'til it melts then use it or pull the pipes off it, heat the tank then when it runs out the bottom replace it with anti-freeze and bleed the system.

Or, as it's not yours just drive it anyway. If the pipes are fine it will be right. lol

Quite contradictory coming from me seeing as my washer tank is empty and the header tank contains nothing but water. Didn't even have that in until my mini 'service'. the other day. lol

yup, i would, if it was mine, then once it is warm, get some antifreeze in it ASAP

£7000 of car that isn't mine, I'm a bit dubious, can you blame me? lol I don't really trust the little mechanical knowledge I have lol

Why the fukk has a 7grand car not got ANY anti freeze ffs??

Then blag it like your mother would have - and it would be fine for her.

The more you know, the more trouble they give you! lol Do as GUM says, get it warm then hoy some antifreeze in. I bet 42% of my man points that it's below the level anyway!

Andy, I aint got a clue mate, shes only had it since feb and it was a hire car before that she says so I would have thought it had anti freeze in it, and like I say, the pipes can be squeezed just seems to be frozen in the header tank, but the water in my old Nova's header tank never froze that's why I'm a bit confused by this.

Me mam's fella is on his way over, he's probably bringing some anti freeze with him so I'll leave it for him to sort, worst that happens is she'll finish him lol if I break the car I'll be homeless lol

think my dads HG is on the way out aswell, heaters being inconsitent, oily plug, smell of oil out the back, emissions still high - nice bill for him to pay for my xmas partying lol

To be fair most people would expect it to have some,i mean it cant be very old???
What makes me more curious is WHY it hasnt any:confused: Ie why was it removed etc

Last shape Micra.

Mountain out of a mole hill here. Just add some anti-freeze! Or come the morning you may find (if you're lucky) that it's popped a core plug!

They are French remember! lol

Just spoke to the garage me mam bought it from, he said the same, pour warm water in and start it up once defrosted then take it up tomorrow to get the anti freeze topped up.

So now if anything goes wrong I have someone to blame for incorrect advice, I hope lol

Exactly!

And lmfao at a 2 year old car not having any anti freeze in, thats going to be one to buy in 5years time! yeah right!

When i was 17 i had a mk3 escort i paid £200 for, thought it was using a lot of water but kept driving and topping it up once a week then one day i was filling it up and the neighbour pointed out the wet patch underneath, the bottom hose was rotten and had came off lol had been driving it around for months with no water! Was fine drove it for another year then sold it!

Bloke i sold it to told me the next day it had no bolts in the engine mounts either lol Fooking cowboy before me had fitted a 1600 engine into it and never told me, always thought it went well for a 4speed 1300!

my sister in law bought a mk2 astra 1300. it would drive lovely for 15-20 mins then conk out.... then after about 15mins, it would start up and run again.. the garage she got it off thought it was an electrical fault...... she drove to my house, 50 miles, 2 hrs. i went out to it & the top hose wasn't even connected to the stat housing.
we refitted the pipe, filled it up & she used it for another 2 years with no trouble...

Must have had anti freeze in, none of the pipes were frozen and I've just got back in and all is OK, meh maybe I made a mistake.
