View Full Version : Best Prices for Catalytic Convertors (Scrap)?

Noticed today that the price of scrap is up to a decent level again, and I have a bunch of alloy wheels, batteries and cats to be weighed in.

My local yard gives £950 per tonne for alloy wheels. They are not generous for cats compared to a lot of yards, so I want to do some comparisons.

Anyone have any prices for other yards within a 100 mile radius of Lincoln for me?

Thanks.

Batteries
Cats
Alloy wheels

and maybe copper out of curiosity?

Cats vary alot colin, theres no "set price" for them
Ie genuine ones are worth a hell of alot more than aftermarket cats.
Different makes and different prices

round here you get offered a set amount for cats not how much it weighs

Yes, I realise that, 'weighing in' is a turn of phrase.

All I need to know is which yards pay top money for cats. I do a lot of travelling, so it doesn't matter too much where they are located, I might be headed nearby.

Nope, where are they?

Just rang EMR in Lincoln and they'll pay £1000 for alloy wheels, but won't take batteries unless I have a relevant waste carriers licence (which I don't).

Thanks Mike, they pay £1000 for alloy wheels and £420 for batteries - pretty good I reckon.

It'll be worth making a trip to them, unless I can find a better price elsewhere.

we useto give sims all our scrap, till we found a better price with a smaller comapny!

Cats are 50quid down ere scrap. aluminium is 1300/ton, steel is 130/ton

random fact, aluminium is worth more scrap than gold ;)

say each one weighs 5kg,
thats 200 alloys for a ton!

Most alloys are a fair bit more than 5kg though.

If you reckon on about £8 for a scrap alloy wheel you won't be far out.

I used to deal with a girl in the south west but she does travel all over the uk collecting cats, she used to pay upto £80/100 per cat for a large Genuine cat but was terrible payer for the metallic type. If you are not in rush and have quite a few it could be worth giving her a call when your planning a trip to Bournemouth next.

Also Colin she buys alloy wheels as well and we used to haggle the price of the wheels up otherwise she didnt get our cats, always worked out much better than selling seperate.
