You say you have been quoted £6k for a 1.6 16v Corsa (standard engine for that car). Yet you think a Nova XE (modified car) will be cheaper????

But a Nova with an XE in it is classed as modified so insurance groups are pretty much irrelevant.

It wont be.

Yeah. They've now made it 1-50 instead of 1-20 (not sure why), and swapped most of the old cars across; the theory is though that the new groups are equivalent - so a group 20 car on the old scale would be around about a 50 on the new one. An old group 10, would be around 25... etc.

Anyway, for reference, insurance groups can be found here (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=122840&highlight=insurance).

Hmm, ABI still only lists 1-20 and 1-50 (Jan 2010 onwards are 1-50 only)... no mention of up to 70

19 year old on a Nova TD......£7k sounds about right to me given the lack of information provided. Seriously do you expect people just to pick a price out of the air? Phone many many many many insurers and you will get it cheaper I am sure, the one quoting you at £7k obviously sees you as a high risk and doesn't really want the business if they are quoting that high!!!!

Sorry if that sounded cheeky but this isn't an insurance comparison website and no one can advise you what the correct premium for your risk is!!!

strange, i only say that as I am in the industry and our group rating definately goes up to 70 (eg Aston Martin DB9 and the like)

Some insurers now have their own scales... some 1-100 some 1-70 some 1-50 and some on the old system.

Its because there were too many cars hitting upto group 20 and screwing things up, eg how the hell is something like a vx220 similar in scaryness to a lambo etc.

imho/experience the groupings dont really matter anyway as 90% of the quote will come from risk of driver age group/gender/experience/area/crime stats etc.... the actual vehicle spec will have next to feck all to do with it in most cases.

eg it appears that no matter what I want to buy at the moment the insurance is fixed at £450ish.... VERY irritating as it should be less but meh
