View Full Version : Filling up a mk1
Does anyone else have this problem? When filling up the loon ewe second the pump clicks and it takes forever just to get 20quid into the damn thing. A mate said his old one did it so how do people fill up normally? Lol
Ade used to have the same problem with his, can't remember how he rectified it though!
Mine did this and I think its the 12mm pipe from the top of the tank to the filler neck, it was kinked, just replaced it and it was fine

is it the breather pipe or something. as in air has to come out the tank as fast as fuel can go in.
/\ yup, thats a pretty accurate description..
i once had a transit & its previous owner was a road contracting firm.. it could take 1/2 hr to fill up.. we changed the breathers etc, in the end, i stick some fencing wire down the neck & found a blockage, so i made 2 hook shaped bits of wire (it was pretty strong 4 mm high tensile stuff) and got the blockage out. it was a lump of resin filler.. they had a sense of humour... just not a very good one.

cunny funts eh.
they also smashed the heater housing so it wouldn't demist.... i wasn't prepared to take the dash out, so fixed it with self tappers & a rover biscuit tin.

hope you got them back.
nope...but my brothjer now listens to me before purchasing a vehicle.
Your breather pipe on the tank is kinked or blocked.
I had the same prob with mine 10 years ago, but only with BP garages so just avoided them.
I'll check the breather pipe tonight. Thanks for the help. Just thought because my mates old MK1 did it it might have been something else.

Breather pipe was kinked, cut out the kink and put a metal sleeve in there and it fills up lovely now. Thanks people.
