View Full Version : Battery STILL dying
C20XE Nova
Car runs sweet as a nut, turn it off, put multimeter across and it drains. Found its the live on the nova loom for all the electrics.
Pulled fuses out 1 by 1, still doing it.
Tries several, brand new batteries
Next suggestions?
Charges the car fine when running, shows a healthy 14+v.
Any other ways of testing it on the car?

Follow the wiring from the battery, find whatever has been bodged in without a fuse.
Something like the glovebox light?
Not too sure tbh
IIRC its draining it massivly quickly
so it will be something big lol
disconnect the alternator
& if that doesn't fix the problem, the starter too, and if that still doesn't fix it, then remove the fuses one by one
Yeah it drops pretty rapid lol
Tried pulling each fuse to no avail.
Will try alternator and starter tomorrow.
If it is one of those, what do you reckon? New one?

bad engine earth? thought it was my battery/starter motor too got both brand new to no avail.
connected a jump lead to block then body and cracked up perfectly straight away. could that be your problem?
I bet its a relay. I seem to remember mentioning it on your last thread. Have you tried them?
Not yet no. Had the battery on charge last night. Will try today. If it is one of the relays. How do i go about fixing it?
How long does it take to die? My XE will drain the battery in about a 7-10 days :(
6-7 hours, sometimes less after its been charging.
Any audio amps fitted in the car?
not a heated rear screen on?
No audio what so ever and no heated rear screen. This car is empty empty!
pull each relay in turn until the drain on the battery is stopped.
I would start with the fuel pump relay. on a lot of XE conversions they are in the engine bay and suck up a load of water. Happened on mine. Killed the battery in a few hours.
silly question but...the battery does have water in it doesnt it its not leaked out or something? we ran our forklift dry and it would loose charge in a day.
