hi all, its just a quick question regarding the conversion im currently still using the standard 1.2 radiator as the astra one i was intending to use was to big and there was very little room left to add the standard one let alone something bigger like i was intending.
Use a Nova rad, standard one will suffice but a 1.4 or GSi/GTE one would be better, Nova diesel ones also work.

same size as the rest of the rads apart from diesel.

so you guys would recommend chnging the nova 1.2 one thats currently in? it shouldnt do any damages leaving it in for the time being would it?

You sure?
Smithy, it'll be alright.
Absolutely, the whole gsi rad thing is a myth. Used to see them on ebay same part no but £20 on top for being "gsi rad" lol

nice one, thanks fellas :-)
So there we have it, a diesel one would be best lol but a standard one will do the job.

also ive having a over fueling problem since the new engine has been in, would it be the fact that the engine that went in had a cat but the nova didnt the down pipe from the astra engine was welded onto the nova pipe, it still has the lamba sencor, could this be the problem or a long list of little things? also theres was no room for the astra air box to fit the nova so a vaxuhall tigra one was used which was alot smaller do you thing i should fit a k&n filter on instead for the extra air intake?
it doesnt need a cat to run right.

my 1.6 16v is running a stardard 1.2 rad and is fine. when i had it on the roaders i pulled it outside and the fan was going then it stop for a couple minute and then come back on and all that time it never goes over half way on the temp gauge :)

You are completely wrong. GTE/GSI rads are full height, 1.2 etc rads are only 3/4.

I run a 1.2 rad on mine and it's fine, just keep your eyes on the temperature and if it's constantly getting too hot/in the red when driving then you have a problem.
For piece of mind I've fitted my fan to a flick switch just in case.

Thanks to every one who has taken the time to reply to my thread, my tempiture never goes past half so I guess the rad + fan are doing there jobs, I also was going to install another fan wired to a toggle switch but there was just no room to consider a second one,
Can any one help with the over fuelling problem?

Can I ask what power did yours produce on the rollers? Also do you know the standard bhp
Can I ask what power did yours produce on the rollers? Also do you know the standard bhp for the 1.6 16v astra sport engine? Cheers
I think it was around 100 BHP give or take, as for over fueling you could try a paper clip test and see what codes get thrown up.

Early 1.0 & 1.2 rads werent full depth like the later ones. A diesel rad is no use on a petrol engine due to outelts & piping shapes etc.
The fan should only turn on & off intermittenly assuming the stat/swith is OK.
re the fuelling, what tank/fuel pump is the car running with the 1.6 now in it?
