Seeing as this may aswell be the PCG, thought you lot would know.
Cav Turbo's problems:
-Rear electric Windows not working?
-Do they all come with the grey dash, if they have cloth interior?
-Are the trip computer things expensive?
-Are towbars readily available?
Good tow cars?
I am buying one, and has them problems with it.
Cut a long story short, I came out of Ministry of Sound rather drunk this morning at about 5.30am, and there was a Cav Turbo being used as a minicab, got talking with the bloke, and it turns out it is for sale at a very good price.
So Im buying it to replace the Vectra!

electric windows could be something as simple as a split wire if the back doors have been open and shut constantly.

Mine had cloth trim, but it has a black dash.
I've heard if your towing, you have to do it in 2 wheel drive.

Paul, from what know it's in the original vauxhall manual. All you do is pull fuse 19 out.

i got a pound on the rear windows is down to the switch pannel in the front with the 4 switches on had 2 now where for some reason something goes belly up in them and the rear windows stop working for no reason at all
i got a tow bar on my cav turbo and a locked box and its not a problem
may have a trip computer screen kicking about mate if i have you can have it will have a looksy tomorrow for you

I know. If it's a locked box, don't worry about it.
If it's the original 4x4 vauxhall system, you'll have to investigate further.
Sounds like if yours has a grey dash and cloth interior then its another ex-police car then Paul, you lot are going to have to stop buying cav turbos as at this rate there will be none left for me next year lol

My ex police one had a black dash and cloth seats and keep fit windows. If its not got a sunroof its prob ex police, but if its got electrc windows and sunroof and heated leather it prob isnt ex police even if it was an undercover car. You can easily swap the dash for a black one and easily found out of a calibra or cavalier.

Actually calibra ones are different, i will have to be a cav one as the bit under the screen has more of a sweep to it due to the different shape of a cally's screen, i never knew this untill mr Porter showed me and Rob one he had stripped:eek:

Lol, until shown otherwise i thought they were the same too, cavs wont be hard to find in a scrappers though, and ask novafusion for advice on doing the swap as he has just changed the grey dash in his (my old TD):thumb:

Not at all bud, youve read me wrong i assure you, couple hundred K milage is only usual for izuzu turbo dervs, and i knows what you mean by your comment, if its an ex fed car, then after a taxi, it must have been clocked and actually have more miles than the starship 'enterprise' lol

my cav t has 187 tho on the clocks and the shell is spot on engine was silent ect only problem i have is head has decided to go porus but thats no biggy just an exscuse to strip the engine out the car tart it all up and put it back as i want it
funny thing is my white gsi 2000 4x4 that got converted to turbo was only showing 74 tho and the original xe was foobared and the shell was as rotten as that pic of the burnt out one looks
point is its not the millage that kills these cars its how clued up and dedicated there previous owners have been
in regards to spuds cav the xe in that sounds like its just come out the factory i have never heard an xe run and sound as sweet and as quiet as that. Even completly freshly rebuilt xe's dont run and sound as sweet and quiet as his it realy is unbelivable especialy it the xe has dont the indicated millage!
point is its not the millage that kills these cars its how clued up and dedicated there previous owners have been

I'd rather have a 200k+ engine thats been serviced on the nose every [insert GM servicing schedule interval here], than one thats done only 60k but never been serviced once in its life.
I think ive properly struck lucky here, mines clackety from one of the tappets on first startup, then once warm she is quiet as anything and purrs like a kitten on tickover, and actually pulls like a train aswell, so im more than happy, ive got no history but local knowledge says previous owner was a vaux tech:thumb:

lucky swine! I want and need one! The best buy ive had was whwn i was sat in a car park 10 yr ago in my dads car talkin to a mate. Id blown the engine on my nova sr again! When he mentioned he'd sell his cav gsi for less than £400. This was 1am so we drove strait to his house n i drove away a happy man!

The 4x4 works.
Clutch slipping, steerings vague, EML is on, fuel leak, back bumper held on with gaffer tape, doors booted it as is wing, electric windows dont work, clocks are peeling, trip computer doesnt work, no abs, immobiliser is tempremental, no stereo or front door speaker, grills cable tied on and also the electric ariel doesnt work.
Other than that its a minter! On a serious note shell is very clean, i have a very good condition leather, 2spare AFMs lots of black plastics, good new door, spare headlight, phase 2 chips. Engine sounds sweet, gearbox is sweet, tyres are all near enough new, brakes are sharp, rear arches are near enough mint, new turbo few k ago, cambelt done 15k ago, brakes overhauled at cost of £400.
I dont know whether to break it, restore it or sit on it and ponder for a while...
Might aswell use it for a while, it got much tax or test?

Sounds like it will be an easy fix, must of had the eml light on for a while if he's given you extra afms and similar bits. Does the engine sound okay then Paul?
Run it till the summer and sell to Spud with 6 months t&t on ;)

If you have no use or desire to drive it then breaking it is the best way of maximum return but it'll be a shame seeing as you've already saved it from drunken clubbers sick and chilli sauce, I say try curing all the faults without spending to much money and then sell it to Spud so it can have a cherished and happy retirement, any pictures of it yet? Oh and don't let Merrrrrrris near it with any tools or paint lol

I broke up mine a few years ago,it was immaculate,had loads spent on it, but it had a exhange engine that i wanted for my corsa,The plan was to put it back to standard but split up with the ex ,so left her with the bare shell i sold the rest for a nice profit R.I.P L401ARY.Surprised it drives badly as taxis are supposed to be in tip-top condition( Hackney checks are a nightmare).

On Friday for example, I cam home with a bloke in a Previa who could barely speak a word of English!!!

fair enough you didnt want the shell but i garente you would have got minimum of about 450-500 quid for the bare shell on cavturbo owners club and it would have been restored to some state of tune!

I personally know of a completely orignal nova sport that the bloke who owns it does not even own a pc, (currently garaged and sorned)
i also know a old boy in his late 70's maybe even 80's with a cav turbo in that blue colour same as pauls, he bought it brand new from vauxhall as he loved cavaliers and asked the salesman for the "best model" and ended up with a turbo lol. He drives it twice a week with his leather driving gloves on.
Up until very recently i knew of a nova spider that again the owner never has or will use the tinterweb (sold it last year iirc).
And i also have a friend with a grey cav turbo who hates the internet and owners sites etc.
So how on earth do these only 9 left people really know how many are left unless they hack the dvla database!

I know of loads of cool old skool cars stashed away. A Chevette HSR being one.
I dont know exactly where the info came from, that was just a guesstimate, it is a massive shame though whether it be cos its now died through the hands of Paul, or the previous owner who showed it no love, and left it in a state it wasnt wanted to be repaired!

I reckon a Lotus Carlton bonnet would be better for sledging IMO, go faster vents an all.
