I have a Question ..... Black cars i find are horrible for swirl marks my best mate has a corsa c sri in black and looks lovely once its all polished up.....

But every time he washes it and wipes it clean he gets the swirls back. He uses autoglym wash stuff microfibre sponge and a microfibre drying towel blabla..

Polish he uses the super resin. ive recently told him to try using ultimate quick detailer after washing it. he says it seems you have to put hard graft into getting a good finish on each panel. he says its helped with the swirling slightly and has a better finish...

I did say to get shot of autoglym stuff and get merguiars lol as imo its better stuff and try using the 3 step paint cleaning method or clay kit???

Any knowledge would be great + rep!!:thumb:

SRP only fills the swirls, tell him to buy a decent wax and use it after SRP, that way he'll get a couple more washes before he needs to re-apply the SRP and wax

or

get it machine polished by a professional and take their advice for keeping it as swirl free as possible

Hope he don't use a sponge?

Does he wash out the washing tool and drying towel? To make sure they are clean?

Using SRP is ok, but there are better, does he polish it every time? Does he clay the car?

Does he use any glazes? As they are a ultra fine polish in them to really remove the fine marks before waxing..

A good wash is a must as it will help to hide swirl marks.

He uses a microfibre wash mitt and yes he rinses both of them clean after each wash.

No he has not clayed the car yet as winter is on its way dont think he will and also he does not polish it every time but often enough more than quaterly in a year. But we may attack it soon with my clay kit.

He uses autoglym ultra deep shine also but he says its as good as the SRP in his opinion.

I put all my cleaning stuff thru the washing machine. Its the best way to clean them (no softener)

Claying the car is very important, as it lifts all the sh*t that stuff on the paint off.. At the mo he'll be polishing that in...

Deep shine is just a wax iirc. But once a car is polished right it shouldn't need doing that often if the car is waxed and washed regular.

Not after every wash, but wouldn't use them say 5 times.

You dont want dirt that can scratch paint building up.

Collinite 915 is an excellent wax for Black, gives a great deep shine. I use it after AG SRP on the Wifes black car and it lasts quite a while.

poorboys black hole is great. i use it on all my cars i only seem to buy black for some reason. i usually give them 2 coats on poorboys black hole then a collinite 915 looks real deep and lasts ages! i havent used anything other then pooyboys for around 2 years now, i used to allways use meguiars polish and wax.

I started looking on detailing websites and I now have product overload!
I find snow foaming the wifes black car before washing helps to keep the swirl marks at bay, I use Bilt Hamber.
Seems the latest must have for longevity is ceramic sealers, like ceramishield which is supposed to last upto two years!

Problem is the massive amount of choice is baffling. Trying to get a recommendation for a product or range of products to work together is a nightmare.

the easiest way to keep up with products and what is best to use, is to limit yourself to choice brands, say 5 for example, product from the same brand will work well together (common sense really) and stick to what you know

my kit consists of meguiars, autoglym and valetpro, with a couple of autosmart, simoniz and dodo juice, and dont really stray out from these brands, although i have tried other stuff like poorboys

As above, try a few, get samplers if you can. Find what works for you and stick with it. There is a load of buzz at the moment about certain 'new' polishes but I'm happy with Menzerna. I find them easy to work with and get the results I want with the machine so will keep using them.

The forum here has some friendly people on it: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk

For me after polish prep with Menz. in summer I follow up with Prima Amigo (glaze) and then Menz. Powerlock (sealant) which leaves the paint looking wet and glossy. For winter it's Carlack NSC68 (cleaner.mild filler) and LLS (long life sealant) topped with FK1000P (high temp sealant). For wheels I use FK1000P as it lasts ages and makes brake dust removal easy.

For the Nova I think a base prep and sealant followed up with DJ Purple Haze wax will look best, as it's not out much it doesn't need to be as durable as the daily driver.

Swirl marks are actually light scratches on the paint

Using srp will only fill the swirls as it a filler

Get someone who can use a rotary buffer use a fine cutting compound on it then seal and wax it

I use a rotary buffer with menzerna confounds I can get a motor finish using them but if your not carefull you can burn through the paint using it

you only burn through paint if youre on the same spot for too long, at no point should you ever stop

ag srp does contain chalk (filler) but its still a decent polish

with fk1000p also, its a hi temp wax, so perfect for wheels and the summer (although wax needs to get really hot to disolve, not even hot water can disolve wax)

Yeah you have to be a bit daft to burn the paint but always worth mentioning

Benn

No true, if you sit on a swage line or edge for too long you can burn the lacquer.

Yeah or that I stay clear of the any big angles on the body work and tape everything else up

on solid colours like black and red, apply the polish in straight lines. takes longer to apply but if you leave it to dry then buff off it'll be gleaming.

You need to ditch you cheap crap polishes and invest in some decent stuff. I us the word invest as yes its expensive but the results and the amount of time they last makes them worth it.

I recommend this stuff

Fantastic stuff. I use their wheel sealant. But at £25 for a bottle that does 8 wheels it isn't cheap.

most products work if used correctly, i dont rate expensive products, theyre over hyped, certainly not value for money

to use autoglym super resin polish as an example, for years people have been moaning that its dusty, well if you use to much it will be, user error, but people still wont believe that its themselves to blame, so autoglym have gone back to the drawing board and formulated the product, taking out the french clay (which is used as the filler) however in turn, its provided more of a glaze, being better suited to light cars, were as ultra deep shine is better for darker colour cars (which ive just machine used on a mk8 black fiesta today)
